The Citadel

Does anybody know about this title?

It's a half-retro FPS made by a single japanese(!) dev that takes a lot of inspiration from Marathon, Touhou, Doom, and cyberpunk/dark anime from 90's (GitS, Jin-Roh, Blame!, etc). The game, despite being a bit clunky in realization, has a good amount of effort and soul put into it together with a decent amount of gun autism (projectile ballistics, half-realistic reloading system, juicy sounds) + elements of guro and ryona (no porn) + fucked up cyberpunkish/religious setting, as if it was taken from some obscure japanese RPG Maker schizo game.

You can download the game here:
https://mega.nz/file/3klwRBzL#5czlduwGO1gQ2MmOi5pLnoJTp2tvBdoMVRDvQDwLfSY

or/and you can buy it on steam to support the dev:

Super Mario 64 B3313 romhack

Have you guys played this Mario 64 romhack? Feels like a mix of Yume Nikki, LSD Dream Emulator and Mario 64. I love the atmosphere, music and overall feel of the romhack and thought maybe you guys would like it too. If you want to play just apply this patch to an US version of a Mario 64 rom.

Seraphic Blue

An old RPG Maker game which has been finally translated in 2014.

It can get difficult at times, so be sure to master the combat system. (Uses a field element effect: Can only use certain spells and abilities when a certain element is active.)

Shift opens up a second menu in battle which includes the Escape battle function.

Game also has a Dictionary and Glossary as well as a Destination marker (In case you forgot where you were in the game or what objective you were doing/have not played in a while)

Clown's Pavilion

So, i found this game through some related japanese Ao Oni video.

The game is called clown's pavilion and from what ive gathered there are 3 versions or possibly 3 diffrent games in the series.

It takes place inside a mansion filled with monsters, there was some clown in the introduction and you run around solving mysteries.

I dunno why this has gone so much under the radar. I couldn't find ANY english website at all mentioning the game.

http://www5.hp-ez.com/hp/fugasi/top
You can download it from here but i can't tell what's what.

Does anyone have more info on this or maybe the japanese to help get a better understanding.

Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea Reboot Translation

Let's try that one more time uboachan,

Salutations uboachan,

I have completed my translation of the Wadanohara Reboot.

Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea (大海原と大海原) is an RPG made by Deep-Sea Prisoner (海底囚人), using the RPGMaker 2000 engine. It was originally released in 2013, while the Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea -Reboot- was released in 2020. It is an update to the original game and features some narrative, gameplay and QoL changes.

You may find the translation patch at
mediafire.com/file/ja14lh8tf8yn331/Wadanohara_Reboot_English_Patch_v1.0.zip/file

This is just a patch, the original (Reboot) game is available for free on the creator's website.
http://funamusea.com/story/wadanohara_re/index.html

I have not completed a full playthrough of the reboot with the translation applied. Many scenes were done entirely by looking at just the script, devoid of context. Because of this I suspect there are a number of lines that do not match the context of the scene in which they take place. If you find any bugs or awkward lines, I will be watching this thread forever, as is the nature of uboachan. There is also a contact method in the readme.

List of untranslated games gleaned from Nicovideo play videos.

The following is a list of games I came across by looking around Nicovideo, which are as of yet untranslated. If nobody else will translate them, I will, one-by-one, translate them myself. Do note that since I am regularly busy with other things, that progress will be slow, and I would definitely like some help on how to modify these games to make an English version (I only know about DreaMaker so far, which does not help with translating menu options).

Boy Ichiro's Modesty (いちろ少年忌憚, Ichiro Shounen Kitan)

BXEngine: Backrooms Explorer

Helloachan!

I am working on a new game engine using PyGame for graphical point-and-click adventure games, a-la Myst. Currently I have a PreAlpha I made in about 10 hours that is functional enough for a simple walk-around-and-look-at-things game. Planned features include music and sound, scripting, save files, inventory, FMV support, and a simple battle system.

The engine is called BXEngine, and the showcase game is Backrooms Explorer. I haven't taken my own photos yet so I grabbed them from various places for testing; they will be replaced. Currently there are only four rooms to look at in the demo, but the file formats are extremely simple and it should be easy for anyone who wants to play with it to make their own walkaround at this point.

To play the game, move your mouse around the screen to look for indicators. If your mouse is near an available exit (center or edges of the screen), a navigation indicator will appear. If you mouse over something you can interact with, an action indicator will appear. If more than one indicator icon appears, left click performs the top action and right click performs the bottom action.

I will post updates here as I add new features.

tl;dr I made an adventure game engine that is functional enough to play with a bit.

Worlds

Did anybody of you hear of this game?

"Worlds" is an indie game made in 2016, that consists of Hitman and MGS-like gameplay; dreamy and surreal landscapes, and cozy/eerie locations in vein of Yume Nikki and Myst; interesting plot with many secrets; quests that affects the further events and affect the story in one way or another, and many cryptic details that a passionate player can discover.

You play as Reyk, a newbie secret service agent of an interdimensional illuminati organization. Basically, all the game is about you doing your work: assassinations of "inconvenient" persons on different worlds, bringing back lost documents/equipment, finding your lost comrades, or investigating newfound worlds. However, don't expect the story to be as boring as it sounds - believe me, the game will find a way to surprise you more than once.

The game passed under the radar of indie players, and remains barely recognized, all due to its name. I can't tell whether the dev just didn't think about it, or maybe he just wanted it to stay as obscure as possible. Either way, I got into it expecting just a boring stealth shooter (and I hate stealth games, actually), and ended up sinking in 20+ hours non stop solely because of pure entertainment and genuine feeling of adventure, where you can't even predict what to expect next.

Give it a try, anon. Games like that definitely deserve attention.

Vinesauce terminal 7 moment

Mario! It's New Super Mario World! Everything's different! There's water in the sky, Mario! And there's blocks everywhere! Yoshi coins!

Luigi, I've been a plumber for 34 years. Do you think I actually go to some kind of Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi? I don't. I just trip really hard on LSD and I fuck some prostitutes … without a condom.

Mario! I've been there with you! To the Mushroom Kingdom!

No, you haven't, Luigi. You have Terminal 7 brain cancer. I don't even know what that means, but it's bad. This is all in your head, Luigi. It's in your imagination. There's no such thing as the Mushroom Kingdom. I'm a plumber. You've been living off me and my livelihood for years, Luigi. You're a useless cunt, Luigi, and I've been supporting you because you're my brother.

But Mario, I saw the Princess! She's real!

That was a dead hooker, Luigi. I threw her in your bed, Luigi, while you were sleeping. You were on mushrooms.

B-b-but Mario. What about Toad? What about Toad?

Luigi, that wasn't a talking mushroom. That was my cock, Luigi. That was my cock, okay? That's why it looked like a mushroom, Luigi.

I set up a Minecraft Lost Cities modded server to play around with. Take a look. It's a mapgen mod, so the world is an auto-generated abandoned city in all directions. If there is enough interest for me to find donors, I will add some more features and plugin support. Currently it is otherwise vanilla, with 12 player slots.

There are skyscrapers, highways, bridges, tunnels, subways, and other structures. Forever. Treasure boxes and mob spawners are scattered randomly about, making it a very hostile world with infinite exploration value.

Lol_rust (.flow's creator) remade Milya on Unity so it would work better, and seems like added more story/gameplay(?) to it.

Fighting games

Anybody into fighting games/interested in getting into them?

I've been playing them for maybe a year and a half just casually with a friend. I've got USFIV, KoF13 and GGXRD on steam but can't really play them since I live in the middle of nowhere and the netcode is garbage for long distance, so I generally stick to fightcade where I can play somebody with 240 or so ping at only 1-2 frames of delay. If there was enough interest maybe somebody could get a beginner's group together or something

It Moves

A game about a kid and the monster under his bed.

"Bedtime is supposed to be a happy event for a tired child; for this child it was terrifying. While some children might complain about being put to bed before they have finished watching a film or playing their favourite video game, when he was a child, night time was something to truly fear."

The game, like many of my horror games, tries to scare you without too many of the typical "screamers", instead relying on atmosphere and suspense.

Gorgeous Minecraft Maps

posting this in /og/ because even if its mc it has nothing to do with the cute little server you got goin on

So, let's have a nice custom map thread. I myself am looking for big maps that are just eyecandy with astounding design and amazing builds. I have a few suggestions, one or two involve puzzles.

>Lumina Nocturnale the Underwater City

one thats just nice to look at. fun to explore for a while, and trying out different texture packs is quite interesting. not much to actually do though.

>The Tourist

a really good custom map. comes with a texture pack, and its got puzzles. best in single player.

I also played one called Enigma Island but I won't really include it because it was more for puzzles than it was eyecandy, and I want this to be mostly an eyecandy thread.

picture kinda unrelated, its just minecraft and its pretty great.

I created a video game.

I created a video game.

6APM An experimental real-time strategy game: you are limited to exactly 6 Actions Per Minute (APM).

Did you ever have the feeling that RTS games like Command & Conquer, Starcraft or Company of Heroes are somehow stressful? There are always useful orders to give, but trying to perform 200 APM just isn't relaxing anymore.

We'll, I had this feeling, that's why I developed this game. It's a quite normal RTS game with units shooting at each other, control points, bases to spawn units. However, you are only allowed to give a move order (to an existing or new spawned unit) every 10 seconds, resulting in exactly 6 APM. Not the quickness of the commander is decisive, but good decisions – the game gives you enough time to analyse the situation and plan your next move.

SCP: Containment Breach

So, uh, hey Uboachan, never been here before but discovered the place after playing YN and Ib so forgive me if I seem out of place.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know about this if you didn't already know since I didn't see a thread about it. It's called SCP: Containment Breach, it's based on the SCP Foundation stuff. The game is in early alpha but playable, and having played many horror games this is the only one that's ever scared me. The levels are procedurally generated, so it should be somewhat different each time. The game has a blink meter, which is quite important for the main enemy of the game.

I know it's nothing like Yume Nikki, but it's pretty fun if you like horror. Also, it's free.

Five Nights at Freddy's

Surprised there's no thread for this yet.
http://www.desura.com/games/five-nights-at-freddys
A rather simple point and click horror game that requires good strategy and fast reflexes in many cases. You work as a security guard working the night shift at a kid's pizzeria a la Chuck E. Cheese's, and can only move to check your camera monitors and the door/light switches on the side of your booth. The animatronic animals that make up the main entertainment move around the restaurant, and your goal is to survive off the minuscule power your booth is budgeted from 12 am until 6 am without getting killed and stuffed into an animatronic suit by Freddy and his gang for 5 nights. Shit progressively hits the fan harder with each passing night, including hallucinations that can kill you and the addition of a new animatronic who bumrushes your booth like he's goddamn Sonic the Hedgehog. You can also unlock a 6th and 7th night.
The game itself has a free demo but can be purchased for around 5 bucks. It's actually pretty interesting once you get past the horrifying animatronic screeching that plays when they kill you and shit. There's also a wiki up for it, but it's been vandalized recently.

Do you guys play anything western?

Not CoD of course, I'm meaning more cult classics. I'm heavily biased to older western so I'll list some classics as well as some lesser known new games in the hope that someone might find this useful.

Deus Ex series
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Stealth/Shooter/RPG
Fight or flee and occasionally talk you way out of things. I remember quadrupling my money in Invisible War by rigging a genetic mutant gambling match by breaking into the champion's apartment and giving him a little lead.

System Shock 2
STALKER series
Metro 2033
Atmospheric shooters, some with stats
Specialising in creeping dread, early ammo stress and very few jump scares.

Geneforge series
One of the few CRPGs to maintain the trinity of the speak/sneak/slay from tabeltop RPGs. Be dropped into a world controlled by a secretive totalitarian regime able to mainpulate biology. Interesting themes. You WILL get attached to the little creatures you raise and summon. Put your points into either combat or pacifist skills, you won't be effective if you try to be a hybrid. Damn amusing writing with a branching plot.

Star Wolves 3
RTS/RPG
3D real time space combat with pause. Take you mothership, load it with fighters and complete a branching plot. Likeable Eastern European tropes are the pilots of your fighters, each with a full character class to upgrade. Make sure to get the ability that increases the player character's awareness to unlock more dialogue options, it once saved me from having to suicide my mothership. Can be quite hard at times.

Divinity 2
Action-RPG/RPG
It gets both RPGs because it plays like a 3D diablo but you can resolve quests in multiple ways with conversation. Mindreading is a welcome alternative to the standard "speechcraft". The writing is genuinely funny with references to everything from the Ginyu Force to Terminator.

Alpha Protocol
RPG/TPS/Stealth/bugs
Wildly branching conspiracy theory plot can almost be taken as a social commentary of current events. Manipulate the fuck out of everyone including taking bribes from terrorists and fucking them over anyway. Spike the cocaine in Russia, just do it. Easy mode is pistols with chain shot.

Hitman: Bloodmoney
Adventure/stealth/shooter
It gets adventure because it's got heavy elements of "find this and use it on this". Sneak into a house, steal some chloroform and lace a little girls panties to knock out a panty sniffing guard. Strangle people as a clown. If you're using a gun you're missing the majority of the game. Play only if you have patience.

Mechwarrior 2 and expansions
Mech-Sim
Slower paced than Japanese mech sims, drawing elements from flight simulators. The best opening cutscenes you will see in a game from the last millennium. Play keyboard only, the way God intended.

Escape Velocity series
Top down shooting /space trading
Take a cargo ship and strap an afterburner to it. Trade in stuffed knup-knups and stock up on drop-bear repellent. Dominate entire planets in hour long sieges. A worthy successor to Star Control 2

Feel free to suggest anything you think I'd enjoy. I want to hear about the random shit you've never even had a chan board conversation about.

Five Nights at Freddy's

Why hasn't anyone talked about this yet?

A game made by Scott Cawthon, where you work the night shift at a children's pizzeria, and you have to survive against animatronics that wander at night and are out for your blood.

There's two games at the moment, a third one is in development. Either way, it gained an insane amount of popularity around the time of its release.

Shinsetsu Mahou Shoujo

Tactical "fire emblem-like" RPG made in SRPG Studio about magical girls fighting demons, monsters and other bad guys. The game includes a massive cast of lovely characters, very good story, amazing soundtrack and tight tactical gameplay, where player should make a good use of his strategy brain in order not to be wiped even by regular enemies in few turns. Combat system is very elaborated, every girl has her own weaknesses and strenghts, and positioning your team means a lot, since almost all the opponents are deadly and powerful.

For now, the game is available only in Japanese, but maybe (just maybe) it will be translated to English.

Hell Diary

"This thing again?!"

A while ago I put Hell Diary on hiatus while I worked out the design of the game and what direction I wanted to go with it. Is it a sim, an adventure, what do I want to do with this thing?

I think it's still my most popular game despite not being in active development… until recently. A lot of people really, really liked Nightmare Castle, or at least some of the things it did with aesthetics. Hell Diary is set in that era (well… roughly). So I've started over again almost from square one and worked out some design elements I can stick to and make the game really fun for me to work on and feel like I'm making progress, and not confusing the hell out of players.

I've done away with the in-universe calendars and lingo and stuff, I'll just say the game is set in 1979 and has all of the characters you knew from before. But I'm splitting the story up into three "episodes" and at least trying to start out less open-ended. Gameplay's the same, but the aesthetic is different and there should be less stuff to wade through to get to the story.

NOW, the game's being done with Nightmare Castle's PC-8801/9801 aesthetic with 8-colour 640x400 graphics, and a soundtrack done with emulated YM2203 and Music Macro Language instead of Nightmare Castle's SB16 soundfont. I've already got the "engine" set up (it reuses Nightmare Castle's scripts and visual effects). I'll have some more about it up when I can take some screens; this post is long enough already!

Also, if you want, you can support me working on free resources and games on Patreon. You will get to download the game or any free music even if you don't donate, though: https://www.patreon.com/NoyemiK

Amihailu's World of Magic

It's the sequel to Amihailu in Dreamland that nobody asked for!

Amihailu's World of Magic is a PC-98 styled turn-based RPG in the turn-based style of Rogue, where you play as Amihailu and explore her magical world of Tumydorado. This time, you're fighting a variety of different hostile creatures as you explore, with one of the many unique tools the game gives you to do so.

Features (some are planned, some are already in the game):
-Simple melee combat/skills using Amihailu's powerful fists
-Utility and attack magic for solving puzzles, defeating enemies, or escaping
-Ranged combat using firearms for a different flavour and new tactical challenges (being well-trained in their use, Amihailu is reluctant to use her gun at times she determines it would be unsafe)
-Shops, new characters, and a new surreal story starring Amihailu
-640x400 16-colour palette and simple graphical effects to preserve a PC-98 aesthetic

The game's intended to eventually be a commercial product, but the first couple of alpha builds will be free (if a bit sparse) so that people can try it out and see if they enjoy it.

Feel free to ask questions or suggest a feature or two! I'll talk a bit more about systems as I implement them. The game's being made with Game Maker, so it can compile cross-platform. The newer GML is a bit more C-like, so I have little trouble programming with it as well.

SUDA games

Lately, i have been playing the entire Suda51 backlog. Killer7 is so good that after finishing the final chapter, it became my second favorite game ever, only surpassed by Nier Gestalt.

Playing The Silver Case atm, and it's pretty great, i'm really impressed by how underrated most of his older games are. Maybe these recent Grasshopper meh titles like Lolipop Chainsaw and Killer Is Dead did indeed hurt his reputation, but it's kinda sad that the other titles are kinda underrated.

I would recommend especially No More Heroes, Killer7 or the Kill The Past canon trilogy. Any thoughts about it?

少女奇談 [Shoujo Kidan] - EN

Shoujo Kidan - A girl's Eerie Story, by lol_rust.

It took my a good while to translate, particularly because I had to deal with a lot of problems related to the engine itself more than the translation. That's why the filesize is sightly bigger than the official japanese download (I had to add some RTP files). Either way, it's finally here.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/i7dl9m2ywq6xsfb/SJKD_EN.zip

TL;DR run it, if you see garbage, switch the locale to JP.
Just download the game, and run it. If you see mojibake, you will have to either switch your locale to japanese or use a third party program like applocale (or whatever works for the new windows). There's a way to fix this, and that is to encode all the shift_JIS filenames to Windows-1252, however I currently don't know any way to do this which isn't changing every single filename manually. I suspect some file extractors such as winrar can achieve this when extracting files in a non-japanese environment, however I'm not sure and I haven't tested it myself.

The game has 2 routes and an omake, meaning it has 3 endings. It isn't really hard, but it comes with hints so it's nothing unbeatable. I will reply any question if anybody has problems with it though.

Finally, I want to thank every single person who gave me a hand with this translation, for their effort and input. And although this work is finally published, I still accept input and criticism regarding the translation quality, so feel free to bring anything up in this thread or via mail.

Enjoy.

*EDIT*
I received a notification of some errors present in the translation so I made a small patch that fixes them, for anyone interested.

Milya [ENGLISH]

I finished translating Milya. The game is, for some reason (i.e. the engine can't handle memory allocation with some textures), very prone to crashing, and although I managed to improve the overall time between crashes (a lot), it still happens from time to time. The good thing is that this game isn't that long and you don't need to save or anything like that anyway. But I insist that it crashes as a fault on the engine side, so please spare me the complains.

Milya in Japanese can be downloaded here:
https://www.freem.ne.jp/dl/win/13977
(Link provided through lol's site http://rustlimbo.webcrow.jp/games/milya/index.html )

And the patch can be downloaded from here:
https://mega.nz/#!p2oDCIzA!yV2lReNQlx8zSXaZHdK4uTIDkjK0VQgCIupd9whQae0
Just extract the files inside the original Milya folder, and when asked if you want to overwrite things, say yes to all.

Inside the ./www folder, you will find a copy of the original CommonEvents.json file, plus a backup of the english one. In case you want to switch to the original language again, all you have to do is copy the CommonEvents[EN/JP].json file, paste it inside the ./www data folder, and rename it to CommonEvents.json (overwriting the file there).

However, if you find that extracting a file is too difficult for you to handle, here's a download with the executable already patched:
https://mega.nz/#!kzJDmYbR!SFKQYF3mSRXjdKz_pEuAEC12CF7abn49HqMedE5trnI

Finally, I want to thank all the people who gave me a hand when translating this game:
Bleet for giving me a hand with the translation, plus proofreading.
DrNanny for giving me superb corrections and for the great proofreading job.
lol_rust for being such a nice dev, allowing me to translate the game.
And you, anon, for making me work like a slave for free.

Enjoy the game.

Nocturne

Hey Uboachan, I'm not posting this game in /fg/ since I don't know if it's a fangame or not, but I'm pretty sure it's something worth asking about. Do any of you know anything about Nocturne? What I know so far is:
-You play as a shadowgirl named Soentsuki. (Pictured in what I assume is her room)
-You go through a two-screen hallway into a black void where only Soentsuki's eyes are visible.
-The game has a small chance of loading you into a Red Room that locks the game up. Otherwise, the dark room is a softlock.
-In another edition, modified for 100% Red Room, I've managed to move around and discover that the "Red Room" has two screens, but you're mostly stuck on one.

Any info besides this, including decompliling it (It was made in an older edition of Game Maker, I assume) would be appreciated. If need be, I can post a download link for the game.
R: 10 / I: 5
On kick starter there was this pretty good game that got funded called crosscode. It's based on the same sort of concept as sao. You're stuck in a virtual game, etc., etc., etc. There's also some memory loss thrown in. Despite the generic premise, the game play is pretty fun. There was a really extensive demo on newgrounds(which is how I found out about the game) which they later removed. I remember that they almost didn't get funded, but came up with a weird gimmick at the last moment where giving 40 dollars suddenly meant more or something. For some reason no youtubers talked about it when asked to despite raving about shovel knight. I suspect that all of that promotion was payed for. Yacht Club Games already existed before shovel knight so they probably had the money to get some people to shill, not that I could blame them for doing so.

Uboachan Dream World MUD

It is my pleasure to introduce a new project I have been working on for the past several days. The Uboachan Dream World MUD is a text-based, in-browser multiplayer game where the users create the content with in-game commands. The focus is exploration, but I plan to add some more dynamic kinds of features later on.

You can play the MUD in your browser at http://dream.uboachan.net/ or follow the link on the sidebar.

This thread is for comments and questions, and eventually I will collect my answers from this thread into a FAQ for new users. Some user guides will be very helpful in navigating the command system, so ask me whatever and I'll try to write some good posts.

I would also like feedback on how easy/difficult/pretty various aspects of the MUD are to use.

This game was a project from university a few years ago, that I expanded into a full, completed game. JNI is a project about adaptation, specifically: I adapted half of a short story (usually called Jasei no In or The Serpent's Lust or some variant) from a collection of classic Japanese supernatural tales (called the Ugetsu Monogatari) and turned it into a videogame.

From my devblog:
"Jasei no In: The Serpent’s Lust is a short, linear game with a strong narrative… This particular story is a very popular one in Japan, and has gone through many adaptations since its initial creation around 1776.

The protagonist, Manago, is a simple weaver girl who gets caught in a rainstorm. A mysterious man in white appears out of nowhere and shields her from the rain, lending her an umbrella. Feeling indebted to him and perhaps a little attracted to him as well, she tries to return the umbrella to his manor hidden deep in the woods. Manago quickly becomes swept up in a romance that is not all that it seems, and must figure out who exactly the mysterious man in white really is, or face severe consequences.

The game isn’t horror, but it contains supernatural/paranormal themes."

The game is short and can most likely be completed in an hour or two. There is one timed segment that has some fun flavor text if you go through it fast enough. At the end is a bonus room that explains part of the adaptation process, some items of cultural significance, and why I designed the game in certain ways.

Because it was a university project rather than a passion project, the game goes pretty deep in Japanese culture, and the style/dialogue of the story tries to emulate classical speech (think a downgraded Shakespearean/Victorian). So while I tried to put a flair and spin on certain things, the story is tame, there's no gore or sexual themes (unless you think reciting poetry is hot), the art style is simple, and it's mostly a way to try and communicate this old story, that I personally found interesting, to a new audience.

ALSO: I was told to make two separate threads for this game and another I've made to keep discussion localized, so I hope that's ok!

The Huntress of the Hollow

Hello, and here's another old, complete game that I have made (in rpgmaker 2003, released in 2016), called The Huntress of the Hollow.

Itch.io: https://bleet.itch.io/the-huntress-of-the-hollow
RPGmaker.net: https://rpgmaker.net/games/8722/
Devblog: http://bleetdev.tumblr.com/huntress

(If it says it needs the RTP): http://www.mediafire.com/file/b2uh4vsv2oil9c5/The+Huntress+of+the+Hollow+v1.2+with+RTP.rar

Huntress is my passion project spin on Little Red Riding Hood, and is a pseudo-rpg, which means levels don't matter, experience doesn't matter, and grinding is NOT necessary. The battles are mostly for flavor, and can be avoided entirely if desired, and the game gives a lot of recovery items should anyone decide to fight all the wolves they come across. It's a short story with multiple, sequential endings that all conclude the story in unique ways (except for when you die early in battle/get eaten by a wolf), with a bonus room at the very end.

From my devblog:
"Lenora Calamint lives with her mother in a small village called Pokeweed Hollow on the outskirts of a forest. She often delivers food to her stubborn grandmother, who prefers to live alone in the woods. While the forest is a dangerous place full of wolves, the village and her grandmother's house were peaceful.

However, once a travelling, charismatic hunter decided to settle near the village and offered to protect it, the local wolves became mysteriously violent and began to attack the village in erratic bursts of activity. Due to these events, some villagers praise the hunter for his help in keeping the wolves out of their homes. The others can't help but think there's something suspicious about the matter. Despite it all, Lenora still has a grandmother to take care of, and so she wakes up to begin her routine of visiting her grandmother anew."

This game was an experiment in storytelling, "cutscene" programming, the wonky 2k3 battle system, and in color palettes (which do change throughout the game.) And, if you don't attack every wolf you see, it can be completed in about an hour.

ALSO: I was told to make two separate threads for this game and another I've made to keep discussion localized, so I hope that's ok!

I fucking love anything by Osamu Sato, LSD, Dream Emulator, Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls of Tong Nou, Chu-Teng, etc. It's so fascinating to research these games and everything else Sato has made.

Anyone else agree?

Why do Japanese RPG Maker games have more of a well-known following than say western RPG Maker games?
Is it because western indies are so full of themselves because they think their game is art or something?
Of course there are exceptions (such as OFF or Lisa the Painful, for example), but it just seems that people are more receptive of games like Wadanohara or Towelket instead of games like bleet's games or Sore Losers.

More Lies, my WIP Yume-Nikki inspired game!

VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s85Pyo6G7is

Hey there! I just wanted to let you all know about a game I'm working on using RPG Maker 2003. It's very inspired by Yume Nikki, but I don't think I would really call it a fangame. I think it's around the same lines as Fleshchild or something. It's also inspired by Don't Hug Me I'm Scared, a creepy little web series I'd recommend you'd all check out. This game is called More Lies. In this game you play as a boy named Henry who is trying to find the 10 "Lies". I will have a bunch of cool worlds, minigames, battles and more added to it eventually. I'm going to post the first actual version on rpgmaker.net ASAP! But until then, what do you guys think?

Okay, so I've been putting this off for a while now out of embarrassment, but fuck it. I like the mgq games. At first I only played them out of morbid curiosity and the novelty of a pornographic rpg, but then I got into the plot and I liked it quit a bit. Honestly, the porn part of the game is totally unappealing to me. The art is kind of mediocre in a lot of places and the fetishes aren't really my thing either. The rape scenes just felt like an extra punishment for losing and they kind of pissed me off because of how invested I was in the characters. I would really like it if someone put the game into book form because I enjoyed it in the same way that I would a book. The battles were just an obstacle. Game play wise paradox is way superior. It doesn't just come down to trial and error and random bullshit that the player couldn't possibly know about. The story does have its faults, but it's still really compelling. Some of the music is nice too. I'm wondering if anybody else here shares this guilty pleasure. I know that there was already a thread on this like six years ago.

Increpare's Games

Anyone out there have an opinion on absolutely any of Increpare's games?

Figured it deserved a thread considering as of right now he has 253 games on his website. Obviously a lot of those games are short games and many are joke games and some border on low quality, but there is still quite a bit of quality in his games. He even has so many games that there is to some extent recognizable periods in his work.

If you don't know Increpare his games are 1/3rd surreal/strange artsy games, 1/3rd puzzle games, and about 1/3rd joke games. Most of his artsy games feel very depressing and/or creepy.

His most famous games would likely include:
>Steven's Sausage Roll (Most recent ultrahard puzzle game)
>English Country Tune (Older puzzle game)
>Judith (Artsy linear story game about hiding secrets from your lover)
>In A Single Breath (Short and gimmicky, yet undeniably trippy game 3D game)
>Slave of God (Trippy club seizure simulator)

If you're completely new to his games I would personally recommend his 3D unity games first:
>Universal History of Light
>Ollam House
>Slave Of God

So, i was looking for more info (or a general explanation) of this game.
Its called 極・魔導物語の
which is translated to something like "Polar Madou Monogatari"
Now, i know Madou Monogatari is a series of old Dungeon crawler/RPG titles for old consoles.
"Polar Madou Monogatari" is made with RPG maker. I have seen random japanese youtebers fooling around with. The first think i notice is that the plot is either a parody or a knock-off of "Peret em Heru - For the Prisoners"
Teacher and bunch of cliche students go to explore ruins, end up trapped, monsters pop up, etc
Depending on actions you take or not it seems some of the students die and come back later as enemies near the end.
You also have to fight the characters zombie/ghosts form the Madou Monogatari series. The art of some of the zombies/revived characters is very amateur
I have not understanding of japanese, and was simply curious cause it looked pretty weird.

SO, Uboachan, it has been a long time. usually i occasionally pop in to look for good game suggestions or see nice fanart, but this time i need help!

i am looking for a game that was posted here once upon a time ago. i don't remember the name though. what i DO remember is that it has a nearly entirely monochrome palatte, and it was very exquisitely pixelled. there is something about demons, i think? that is literally all i remember since i never finished it, it was a little tough for me (i am very casual, though, so others may remember it as easy). im currently making a game and wanted to see it for inspiration.

any suggestions or leads would be very, very, very appreciated. once we find the game this automatically becomes a game suggestion thread.

Princess maker 2 is really addictive. You can become satan, a general, an artist, a divorcee, ect. Really shows the value of education. Pretty good. Also there's rape. It's criminally underrated. The marketability isn't too high which is a shame and western sensibilities definitely don't fit with it.

Yandere Simulator

https://yanderedev.wordpress.com/
A cute…ish and fairly complex game about the life of Yandere-chan (a placeholder name, obviously) and how you, as the player, must help her sabotage her rivals for Senpai's affection. It's still in its debug builds, but another update will be released as early as tomorrow according to the dev blog. There are expected to be various methods of sabotaging your rival, from kidnapping her via knocking her out by tranquilizer (only if your biology grades are high enough, and you'll have to get past the school nurse as well in later builds), to straight up stabbing her in the neck and dumping all evidence in the incinerator, to sabotaging her online or real life reputation and potentially causing her to commit suicide.

The guy behind this seems fairly competent and friendly. Personally, I like yanderes and even if I didn't, the game is actually challenging and interesting enough (if not in theory for now) to make me interested. Obviously, if you're sensitive to blood, gore, psychological torture, and all that other fun stuff this isn't the game for you - but considering this board, I doubt there's much of a problem.

Lisa

So, Lisa another game made in RPG maker. I'd probably describe it as a surrealistic adventure game with an Earthbound-like aesthetic; the game could be compared a bit to Yume Nikki, since it leaves a lot up to interpretation, isn't too clear about your goals, and has a nexus, with multiple locations available from the get-go. I'd say Lisa's more structured though, since it does spell out small bits of the plot for you, and the way to advance is a bit linear at points. The game can also be somewhat disturbing, though I probably wouldn't call it horror. I suppose it might scare some, though for most, it'd probably just make you feel rather uncomfortable.

BrownSugar games

have any of you heard of Patty & Mr. Miles?
it's a strange game with a lot of deeply disturbing elements in it, as well as more games by the same creator claimed to be in the same setting/timeline
Patty and Mr. Miles seems at first that it's like animal crossing or some kind of happy town life simulation, but the After Story provides a lot of detail to the backstory as well as contrasting the rest of the game with moderately demented imagery and themes

DreamWeb

Last night I just discovered a DOS point-and-click game named DreamWeb the other night, and downloaded and installed SCUMMVM to play it. So far I love it; it has a well-created atmosphere with solid music and an intentionally dreary cyberpunk aesthetic, the characters have so far been lovably degenerative and original, and the plot is gripping and original with more than a dash of angst.

I don't want to spoil anything, but in essence, the amount I've played of it has been about a man who is plagued by dreams wherein he is told to kill 7 people who will corrupt and destroy the already dark cyber-punk world of the game. The protagonist is rapidly deteriorating mentally and emotionally, becoming resigned to his fate.
There's more than a little uncertainty as to whether the protagonist is actually seeing real events and being affected by real people in these dreams, though; they may just be the internal justifications of a soon-to-be serial killer.

You can find the game here, and elsewhere on the same site you can download a decent engine to run it on modern machines:

Jack & Jill

Hey, I'm Nick Shutter, better known as Silent Cicada! I'm the guy that did that Yume Nikki Reimagined album. Now that THAT big project is out of the way, it's time for another!

I'm currently developing a short visual novel adaptation of the classic nursery rhyme Jack & Jill!

Mother Dearest is bedridden with illness, so you must guide Jack and Jill through the dark, dark woods to fetch the water. Unaccustomed to the territory, they soon become lost. Can you get both children to the well and back? And what creatures wait in the forest?

I'm making it with Novelty and it will be fully animated - everything from laughter to standing cycles are animated to some degree, as well as backgrounds. Interactions between characters (passing of objects, death sequences, etc.) get their own unique animations as well. I expect the release date to be in late 2016 or early 2017.

Are there any fans of Len'en series out there? I personally think the new game, Brilliant Pagoda or Haze Castle, is so damn great. The new game is kind of like breaking out from 2hu and becoming more and more unique on its own.

Peret em Heru: For the Prisoners

It's a pretty awesome Horror/RPG game in which a group of 11 people delve inside a pyramid in search of treasure, only to have to survive all the traps, undead and such inside.

The characters are pretty likable and interesting, and most of them have changeable fates too, meaning whether they live or die depends on whether you successfully save them (it changes things enough that I really recommend playing through this game twice, once in which you save everyone, and another where you let everyone die).

This was made on the PC-98 RPG Maker, so the whole game's got classic PC-98 aesthetics; the art and music is really nice, too. The English version comes packed with an already set up emulator though, so it's easy to play even on modern computers.

I don't see a thread about this game here, so I will make one. It just recently was translated and I have been making videos of it on my channel. It's really fun and interesting.

If you want to see my progress, it's right here in a playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKTcFwC4Ho4QkHDgjHO7_I1PITKjkOHX-

Also included in the description is a link to an easy to use RPG maker RTP installer for basically all the RTPs you will need to play rpg maker games.

For those who don't want to check out the videos:

the evidence is that both attack creatures weaker then them (touhou's fairies and rabbits for corpse party)
their names are EXTREMELY similar to needing just two leeters changed to be the same and they both are sadistic (>yuuka atleast in fandom with little evidence in games)

Platinume Arts Sandbox - 3D Game Maker

Has anyone here tried this before? It's really simple to use in terms of designing a large 3d world. The scripting doesn't look too complicated. Looks like an interesting tool for making surreal and abstract environments.

Mateusz Skutnik

Hey all, I have been recently reminded of this guy, and I think ubuu would enjoy his games quite a lot.

Basically, he makes flash games, most of them focused on exploration and puzzle-solving. The illustrations are very interesting, so are the characters. Also, delicious ambience and great general atmosphere. Interested? Great, read on.

The first game I'd recommend is the submachine series. It starts out as a very simple escape-the-room kind of game, but the story and gameplay develop, most notably in parts 2-4. It's a fairly eerie experience. Interdimensional portals, artificial intelligence and cats are involved.

If you never played submachine before, I suggest trying out the sub network exploration project first - http://www.submachineworld.com/subnet.html You jump around the network, from room to room and look for clues. You don't have to do it in order. Each area is different and only loosely related to others, and some of the rooms contain fan-submitted theories. There IS a last room however. But more are being added periodically.

The second game (pictured) is daymare town. This one requires exploration and finding items/solving puzzles as well. Excellent soundtrack. Quirky characters/creatures. I found this one to be rather depressing, though.

You can find them all here: http://www.pastelgames.com/index,games,flash_games.html

Opening RPGMaker Games

Hi there! I'm getting into building games with rpgmaker and one of the things I want to do to help learn is to crack open some of the games such as Yume Nikki and see how they do some of the things they do.

To this end I've downloaded an RGSSAD-RGSS2A-RGSS3A decrypter, but none of the games I have contain any of those filetypes, and trying to change the file name extension and then decrypting or opening just results in errors.

So does anyone know any way to open up rpgmaker games for the sole purpose of studying their inner workings?

(for the record I'm using VX Ace and win7)

Gingiva

Gingiva is definitely art - not a very easy and not for everyone, but worth knowing (and maybe even boat). The game takes place in an expiring where greed, desire for profit and sadness reigned over all. A strange sequence of events closing in on our own reality sets the frame for the story.

It can be downloaded below:

Toilet in Wonderland

This one's a somewhat Yume Nikki-like adventure game that was translated recently. Like Yume Nikki, it's rather surreal and non-linear, and the protagonist has different abilities that can be used to interact with various characters, much like the effects in Yume Nikki. The similarities definitely aren't coincidence either, since Yume Nikki was listed as an inspiration in the game's credits. As for some ways it differs, it's very humor-focused, and has more of a story, along with a good deal of dialogue. The story itself isn't that deep though, so the focus really feels more on exploring the areas and being entertained by the many odd things that happen along the way.

I actually wasn't expecting too much from this game at first, but it became one of my favorites after playing it, so I'd recommend this one pretty highly.

http://hellrising.com

Hell Rising is a post-apocalyptic browser-based MMORPG inspired by Urban Dead. The game is set within a quarantined city of which the inhabitants have been mutated by a special type of fungal infection. You can play as either a human, zombie, or a unique infected type known as a vampire. You may choose to attempt survival as a human, or hunt those that do as one of the undead, but death only means you continue your existence as a different kind of monstrosity.

Crypt Worlds

Anyone played Crypt Worlds? Seems like the sort of thing Uboachan would really like from what I played so far. It's rather surreal exploration game where I'm still not quite sure what my objective is, but it's been enjoyable enough to simply explore. It's not often I see a game with so many uses for piss, either. Aside from pissing people off with your piss, I've also found a piss-activated door, for instance.

Pom Gets Wi-Fi

http://rpgmaker.net/games/5441/
What appears to be a cute little game about…dogs and wifi, with some dumb internet jokes and references thrown in. I've had a hell of a time trying to download this game, so I'm not sure what else there is to it. According to the dev, it was made with the goal of being the least scary thing ever produced on RPG Maker 2003. Knowing you guys and what this imageboard is inspired by, I guess we could all use a break from scary once in a while, no?

OFF my Mortis Ghost thread. I'm amazed this game doesn't get more love here. It's probably the second-best RPG Maker game (after Yume Nikki, of course). And it's also a highly surreal, moving, and original experience.

The Stanley Parable

Hey guys, did any one of you play The Stanley Parable?

The original version is a mod to Half-Life 2, you can easily find it on moddb if you just google the name. It's a very odd game with an air of "2deep4u" to it. You play as Stanley, there is a narrator, you listen to him. You can ignore him, too. The results are unexpected and turn the game more into a discussion on the nature of freedom and choice in video games. There are multiple endings. The whole thing lasts about 30 minutes tops. I really liked it.

Anyway, Davey "Cakebread" Wreden, the creator of the mod, has finished a "HD Remix" version of the game, available on Steam, which is apparently a totally new game with a very similar promise, but it's also going to cost something like 5-10 bucks.

The demo was released yesterday (I think). And the full version is coming in 6 days. I have no idea how to encourage you to try it out, so I'll just leave a link to the demo here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/221910.

Though honestly, perhaps you should try the original mod first if you're interested, it's a bit different.

Picture is a screenshot from the demo btw.

Also wow, Pewdie Pie LP'd the game 5 months ago. Damnit. Looks like there's been a massive influx of shitty LPers doing a let's play of the game since. What a shame. It seriously becomes pointless if you don't play it by yourself.

Wow. So that is how it feels like when something you care about is ruined.

Anyway, the LPers were good for something: they contributed to the compilation of more or less spontaneous reactions to experiencing the game, so now you too can experience it in just 1 minute 14 seconds without playing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j428LmPx9tc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB4AR5Crb54 <- and here's the teaser trailer for the HD Remix

Digimon World Re: Digitize Decode

There is a new Digimon game (Digimon World Re: Digitize Decode) based on the first Digimon World but with more forgiving virtual pet elements and a better battle system. The character artist is responsible for Shin Megami Tensei games such as Devil Survivor. The whole feel is as if they are trying to appeal to nostalgic adult fans of Digimon who have since went to SMT. Anyway, the only way we have a chance of getting it is through this petition.

The Path

I think 'The Path' would be another surreal game that you guys could make interpretations for. The soundtrack is beautiful and there is no clear storyline. It's much like Yume Nikki in the sense that there is not really an objective or enemies. It's kind of like a spin-off of red-riding hood with 6 girls, all of which whose names are another term for red. (Ginger, Scarlet…etc) It costs around 10 dollars if you buy it, but if you want to try it beforehand there is a torrent on piratebay. Honestly, it's one of my favorite games along with Yume Nikki. Give it a try c:

Hello Uboa-chan.

I just had the thought, while watching Yojimbo, to share with you my ongoing RPG Maker 2000 project, as a couple [?] of people who have seen it have commented that it was "YN-like"…I never knew what this statement meant, but in learning about Yume Nikki recently, and playing a bit of it, I think you may appreciate the dark currents and sometimes sprawling/looping maps which make up my CLASSIC GAME ascii-horror-roleplaying scenario:

Now this is not quite a game, it is a chat client from 1994 similar to Second Life. It is one of the very first 3D chat clients out there and surprisingly, the servers are still up.
It recently got a lot of attention for it's out dated graphics, eerie music, strange worlds and most of all, very weird regulars who have been online for years, organizing events and contest as if nothing happened despite the client being almost deserted.

You Have to Burn The Rope creepy alternate analysis

I'm sure you all have played "You Have To Burn The Rope" by Marzapan. If you haven't, take two minutes out of your day and click this link: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Mazapan/you-have-to-burn-the-rope.

A lot of people complain about You Have To Burn The Rope for being too short or too simple of an experience. It really is simplistic, and according to the creator, it is meant to be. While that is true, there is a possible interpretation of the game that might make you look at it in a different light and perhaps give you more enjoyment out of its 2 minute-long playtime. That alternative interpretation is as follows:

You Have To Burn The Rope is about a video game hell.

Or, at the very least it is about a cyclical, Sisyphean game with images and themes of torture, descent, the occult, and repetition.

Note: You don't have to believe, or even like everything in this interpretation, but it does make the game a lot more interesting.

TL;DR - You Have To Burn The Rope alternate analysis

Yume Nikki Secondlife stuff

so,I saw some talk about second life from the Worlds.com thread and I dont see a SL Thread - and i dont know where else to put this so here it is.
I talked to my french friend about Yume Nikki whom is on Second Life. After a few months of not speaking to him alot I decided to check his store and, well: look at these.
I think I converted him.
Anywho, this is what I'd like to say:
-Like the items? Go find them in his marketplace at https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/2100 . Most things will be under $1 US dollar,so its not too much.
-Be sure if you wanna write a review, don't be an asshole. Be fair about it. If you don't say why something is bad we can't improve on it.
-Yes,we know about Monoko's shirt. The thing is the way the switch work cant switch the shirt texture unless you use something like RLV viewer.
-Yes, we know Monoe's is horrid. She was a first attempt and is why shes damn-near-free. ($L1)
-He's a furry. Thats Second Life for you. That should be expected by now.
-Helping him with stuff like feedback and supporting this project can help get more things, like: Masada,16 more effects for Madotsuki, Urotsuki,Sabitsuki, and more. Maybe even a YN Sim in the future.
and finally,
-Mods,if you find a better place for this thread: By all means, place it where-ever. I only put it in /og/ because its Second Life and not a "true" YN Fangame. More of a YN Fanclub thing..but its not off-topic either, so I had no idea where it goes.

I'm putting together a youtube based vlog/podcast kind of a thing dedicated entirely to indie games. My team and I will be both lets playing and having shows about the larger titles and tiny unheard of RPGmaker games. We'll be reviewing, analyzing, and interviewing devs and people who are in the community.

So if you're an indie dev, semi-known LPer who dabbled or dedicates their channel to indie games, OR you've contributed large things to the indie gaming community, we need YOU!

We also are open to suggestions of indie games and things to discuss.

If you are interested, add me on skype or steam at:
bleepbloopbleep

The project is still in the developing stages but we already have some devs lined up and are configuring the format of the show.

Cat Planet is always related.

It's the game that led me to this vomitive shithole in the first place. Well LSD: DE came first but then it led me to this, then came YN.
The whole story that led me to YN was a very isolated one and something that was always very important to me, so I must attribute some of where I stand today to Soup.
I was reminded of it when I finally got my girlfriend to play YN today and recounted my tale of finding it through this game.
I was never able to find a download for this because I could only search for "Soup" and of course that wouldn't yield any results.
Recently I put a little more effort into finding it once remembering about this game and was able to finally find its download through the version number.
Soup 0.9: Never forget ;_;7
