While the primary target audience for the main Pokémon games and anime remains children, the brand's overall marketing strategically includes and appeals to adults, particularly those who grew up with the franchise.

It uses NOSTALGIA baiting and premium products to appeal to its adult audience, like collectors' items, competitive aspects of the game like EV/IV and deep min maxing through breeding, there's also games like Pokemon Go, which 100% of its marketing was targetting adults and Pokemon Unite which is a freaking MOBA, the official Pokemon center clothing store targets adults as well.

I would also make the argument that adults can enjoy the cartoon for nostalgia and some relatable themes like grief and loss, social commentary, abandonment, some pokemon episodes were banned or censored precisely because of things not being deemed suitable for kids like guns, gambling and sexual innuendo.

and DON'T get me started in the pokemon manga.
