Hey, it's kinda strange there's no thread for the NEW YUME NIKKI GAME?! (or the Steam release of the original)
Here's a link to the countdown site for the new project:https://promo.kadokawa.co.jp/gamecountdown/
I wonder if that's when the new game release? Or will we just get teased with another trailer or something? Also the name game is being published by Playism, cool! I hope the creator can make some money.
And here is the extended trailer for the new project! Crazy looking stuff, very excited. We're very lucky to get another game after so many years… hopefully this site can continue to live too.https://youtu.be/dc0KzL1LjBg
I guess the new project is called "Yume Nikki: Dream Diary" which is obviously interesting because the subtitle is just the English title. I guess this could be in part to recognize the game's fan-base in English speaking countries, and makes it clear the new title will be marketed to us too.
…You're not Green, right? You kind of write like him.
When do you use it?
I'm honestly nervous about it not being too good. For a "western audience" means it's going to go for what a western audience would want out of Yume Nikki, which probably means jump scares and whatever. I mean sure I'm fairly optimistic and excited but at the same time I feel a little worried about things not going smoothly. If Kikiyama is really on board though things will probably be relatively good, but regardless I'm ready to ride this through with my Yume Nikki-loving friends. The game changed my life and I'm passionate enough to want to ride through any of this shit; it being official is mindblowing and it means a lot of attention is going to be drawn to it, so even if the game is bad it'll probably be a fun ride to scream about with them. If it's just mediocre then hey, I can talk about the pros and cons of the game with people. If it's awesome then fuck yeah, I get to play an awesome Yume Nikki successor.
Regardless of what happens, I'm a huge fan and the lone fact that I get to experience this is pretty far out since I expected this game to just be left alone forever. We're most certainly getting some kind of ride, so here's hoping that whatever it is, it's a fun one.
There is, just go on the thread about the anime poster in Comiket. It's just a continuation of Kadokawa's madness.
Dream Diary: Dream Diary though.
Great post. After the godawful manga I'd be surprised if this next project could be worse, but regardless, the original game stands fine, along with all the stuff it's inspired.
It's a fucking visual novel isn't it?
>I hope the creator can make some money.
I hope the creator is alive.
Reposting the leaked art 1/2>>7
Judging from these pics it could be, but I really hope it isn't. I don't think they are from the actual game, but just promotional stuff.>>4
My feeling exactly, good post anon.>If Kikiyama is really on board
Well his copyright is there, but I doubt he is involved or even supervising, but at the very lest he gave permission (unless Kadokawa is lying, but let's not get in to that argument again).
To the Fraudmobile!
That last image isn't very anatomically…acceptable.
Wasn't there a five-armed Monoko?
Could somebody translate this paragraph specifically?
From today onwards the freely distributed game "Yume Nikki" will be turned (under the permission of Kikiyama-shi) into a story made by if I think that's the penname of the writer
. A story of a girl who loses her way inside a world that looks like the inside of a broken TV, where she will face characters she's met in the past. Fans and also people who haven't played "Yume Nikki" will be able to enjoy this game that resembles a VN and will definitely feel touched by the uniqueness of the charming atmosphere of the world of Yume Nikki.
Thanks. Anyway this part>under the permission of Kikiyama-shi
makes me raise my eyebrows a little. Hmmmmmmm, does the shi part have any significance? The game supposedly came out half a year ago, so why hasn't anyone here talked about it?
氏 [Shi] is an honorific, equivalent to -san.
We haven't talked about it because it looks shitty, I suppose. And it wasn't translated as far as I'm aware so I don't even know how you guys would go at playing it.
Wait so if THIS is a VN, what the hell is the big project?
No, it's not the vn, it's a separate, shitty mobile game made by the same company.
>>22>Fans and also people who haven't played "Yume Nikki" will be able to enjoy this game that resembles a VN and will definitely feel touched by the uniqueness of the charming atmosphere of the world of Yume Nikki.
This part. It implies the mobile-game is something like a VN. Why would they hype up the big project if it's just like this one?
WOW that sounds awful. Why not port the actual game to the app store or something?
>>18>game that resembles a VN
I think this + the style of the comiket posters is making me imagine a 2D, surreal Night In The Woods or Fran Bow style exploration game, with VN-esque pop-up character interactions (a bit like persona in that last regard, i guess).
honestly, i'm pretty okay with this. I feel like kadokawa/pretty much any studio would struggle to capture the unique feel of a traditional rpg maker yume nikki game, so approaching it from another perspective means it isn't trying to copy/replace something it can't be. also, if it turns out to be a horrible pile of shit, it's distanced itself enough from the original that it can be written off without affecting anything too much.
as with most things, i think it's hard to say how it'll turn out at this point & depends on the people making it themselves (there are loads of ways they could potentially screw it up; imagine a talking madotsuki), but i can imagine yn working with that kind of genre if it's handled properly. cautiously hopeful.
>>25>imagine a talking madotsuki
Oh we got that, the manga. What a pile of shit. They couldn't have picked a better artist for a Yume Nikki manga though, so what a shame Tomizawa had to be saddled with that ridiculous writer.
I think a talking Madotsuki can be done right, and I think the manga didn't pull it off too terribly. Rather, the actual pacing and writing of the manga was what made it terrible. The art was good and I enjoyed a few little bits of it but man it was just honestly kind of a mess; I've legit read fanfictions that were more competent and exciting than that manga.
Talking is not for Madotsuki. I wish they just let yume nikki sleep peacefully i still feel bad when i think about the manga.
You are probably thinking about the mobile game>>20>>19>>15
It is indeed shit. I read it. It's a fan theory (and an average one at best) written in an narrative way. Basically, Mado finds a few characters, and she thinks about who they are (Monoko was a childhood friend that was run over by a car, Monoe was the sister of Monoko, that always blamed Monoe, Masada was some family counselor that tried to help her with the trauma and she fell in love with, Poniko is Masada's lover and a bitch that for some unexplained reason ripped her heart appart in the most cruel way possible). If it was a post here, I would maybe think it's interesting, but as a VN it's really lacking.
No one is being fair with the manga, actually. The first few chapters were kind of all right, they were just presenting the setting, but everyone and their mother kept complaining about silly things, before seeing where it went. Then, it got a hiatus, and next chapter changed the pace drastically (it was the Poniko chapter). It was clearly axed. Of course it ended up being a mess. And it's a real shame because precisely, the Poniko chapter showed how much potential there was in the exploration part, with the art being so good. But we didn't get to see any of it.
>>29>always blamed Monoe
Obviously, Monoe always blamed Mado. Not sure how I messed that up.
Oh, neat, I missed that one.
You must have read a different manga, I remember how Mars-San turned into some fucking alarm and Masada was an evil mastermind? Unique interpretations are one thing but this was just batshit in the bad way.
That was after the change of pace. Of course it's messy if you want to cramp everything into just one volume. You keep judging the manga for what it ended up being after everyone made it become what it is. The manga is all right until Uboa shows up. Then it falls apart (the pace is bad, the explanations are lacking, the other characters just make a one panel appearance even though there was something clearly thought for them, etc.). And that's the exact moment they decided to cancel it. That's why I say people were not fair to the manga.
I actually kind of liked how Masada was handled. I didn't see him as evil, just kind of as some strange guardian and mender of the dreamworld. Mars wasn't that bad. I don't mind it being batshit because unique interpretations are always fun, and Yume Nikki is basically a haven for that sort of thing. Shame what happened to the manga as I think good things could've been done with it, but even then I just feel like the good stuff was far and few between and even the first few parts were kind of average.
Not always anon, not always.
Anyways, the thread is getting a little off-topic; so what did everybody think about the trailer? I don't believe it's been touched on much in this thread.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc0KzL1LjBg
So? What do you think? The voice acting is putting me a little on edge and it's kind of hard to see anything much from the trailer since it's just kind of a psychedelic mess, but at the same time I feel like it conveys a nice sense of what the atmosphere is going to be like. That ending scene with the moon and the droning music is probably my favorite, and honestly feels like it could've been an amazing location in a YN fangame of sorts, or even YN itself. Kind of reminds me of the Puddle World a little bit, actually.
That's still arguably fun, on a staring a trainwreck kind of way.
What worries me about this PV is that it looks like they are trying to go with the creepy/scary/jumpscare/horror style, instead of the surreal and unsettling style of Yume nikki. Yume nikki was never about those things.
The OST Sounds good tho. The music at the beginning makes me hope for NASU 2.
But anyway, this trailer didn't show shit of the actual game, and at this point it's best to wait these 9 days and see what the game looks like.
I hope it's not Visual Novel, I would take a remake over a Visual Novel.
Yeah I'm worried about this as well. It looks like it might be trying too hard to go down that direction and that makes me a little disappointed if that's the case, but it really is best to just wait and find out. That girl in that black image kind of reminds me of Monoe or something but the tone of it just looks like it might be trying a little too hard. I hope I'm proven wrong. The NASU opening made me really happy and I enjoyed it a lot, but otherwise I'm not sure what to say about the rest of the trailer. Once again I'll say that the voice acting felt a little forced and unnecessary, and I think they should just stick to electronic noises or whatever for the characters in the game; they're a lot more unique and charming.
So much this. I want it to be good, but it's not giving me any good feeling.
It sounds good, it looks good, but the way the present everything feels so off. It's as if it wants you to be on tension the whole time, while the game was pretty relaxed most of the time… and let's forget about the voice acting.
I think more people in this fandom need to watch benibame's videos (or even gobou's), to get rid of that image that Yume Nikki is some kind of terror game.
It's going to be like Corpse Party because western audiences love Corpse Party and it makes the best use of the high-res portraits while still retaining the topdown exploration gameplay.
I hate it already. The portraits substract from the abstractness of the game, it's like nobody understood what made this game so good in the first place. Fuck my life.
Y'know, personally I never really got the appeal of Corpse Party. It's the absolute most generic J-horror game I've ever seen. It's like a bad Blair Witch ripoff in a spOoOoOoOoky school where a loli ghost girl tries to brutally kill everyone for absolutely no good reason whatsoever. It's only good for gurofags to jack off to.
What warrants it's 50+ spinoffs that try to add more lore to a plot that doesn't really have room for worldbuilding in the first place? And beyond that, all of it's spinoffs introduce five new characters in each new game who will just be killed in the first 10 minutes. Will they just finish Dead Patient already? That at least has some potential.
I wasn't impressed by it either, anon
Every time I see it mentioned or praised I can't help but feel like I'm missing something
I've seen people being wrong before, but wow, anon, you are on a whole new level.
People like Corpse Party because they like the characters. Thee`y get attached to them, and want to save them, even if they know there's no hope. So they keep playing. While there's bound to be some people in it for the gore, it's just like the people that are into YN because of the horror. Of course, the simple gameplay and exploration elements were important, not to talk about the music and voice acting.
Now, there are not that many spinoffs. There's Cemetery, a novel that follows Naho and her paranormal adventures (2nd volume never released, and Naho is fucking dead now anyway), there's Dead Patient, that at this rate will never be finished, and a manga called Another Child. Everything else follows the main timeline (Blood Covered, Book of Shadows, 2U and Blood Drive), with a few short stories here and there. One could even argue that Dead Patient is a sequel to BD, but since there's not really much connecting them so far, I guess it's fine to say it's a spinoff.
No, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's amazing or anything. But it's still good.
What are some of those yn fanfictions which are actually good? I've read very few fanfics for anything but I'd make an exception to that for something good and yn related.
>7 days remain
Fuck I still remember listening to Madotsuki in Wonderland from 24 Effects and seeing the countdown timer for the first time. The music and timer synced up so perfectly in tone and it just created this chilling experience of "holy fuck I can't believe Yume Nikki is getting something new what the shit". Of course I winded down and realized the reality of the situation, but it was only a damn week ago since this whole train started. I still hold the sentiment from my original post about me just being happy to have something new to react to with other Yume Nikki lovers, but it's just like, shit, the weight of this is stunning.
I'm still sort of in disbelief of the whole thing. I'm obviously looking forward to whatever comes of it, but manic 'omgomgomg' sort of high hasn't hit me yet.
Personally, while I don't want the new project to be a modern horror jumpscare fest, or, horror at all, for that matter, I'd rather they resort to that than fail for not being able to capture the magic of the original. Whatever it is, it's clearly marketed towards fans (even if it's a little misguided) so I'm not gonna worry about it, if it's good, great, if it's bad, we can forget about it, nothing's lost.
It's already the 18th and no concept or character art to be seen in the website.
lol sent out a tweet with a pic of an updated countdown not too long ago: https://twitter.com/lol_rust/status/953882480288788480
Is anyone having any luck seeing this? No one else seems to be seeing it.
The image was only viewable for a few seconds. There'll be a new one tomorrow, probably the same time?
2018-01-19T00:00:00+09:00 to be exact.
See the filename of these pic>>10>>11
They should appear each one for a small time period each day, Monoe should be next.
One of the devs for the steam release stated that they worked with kikiyama for its release. Chances are pretty good they're involved with the new project then. In a perfect world, kimiyama is making everything themself and Kadokawa is just marketing and publishing but any way it goes SIX DAYS LEFT
Yeah I know kiki too, slept with my sister once. Bloody slut.
Also, here's the code for the images that appear once in a while, which have the exact dates and times (as pointed out by >>54
So every day up until the 23rd, between midnight and 9 AM? Or between midnight and 12:09 AM?
What about time zones? Are we basing it off of japan standard time or is it calculated individually?
I'm pretty sure it's 00:00 GTM+9, or midnight in Japan, if you prefer. We should try to confirm how long they last though, that java shit is a bit confusing at first glance and I'm not on my computer.
>>56>One of the devs for the steam release stated that they worked with kikiyama for its release. Chances are pretty good they're involved with the new project then.
How does that correlate?
Because it seems like a pretty logical assumption that the steam release was done to help stir up interest/coincide with the new project.
And if Kikiyama is still involved with he original, it seems like they'd be involved in a new official product, seeing as they're the creator. Not that they are, just that it doesn't seem like a big leap of logic to me.
Hey guys what if Kiki just worked at kadokawa all this time on other stuff? People in Japan have lives too.
So he had a game that was extremely popular ten years ago and he decided to submit it to his boss just now so they can milk the dead cow?
>5 days left
What the fuck do you think we're in for guys? This period of "waiting for the countdown to reveal something more" can't last forever. It's gonna all be over soon and we're not gonna be able to talk about it and savor the worry and possible hype forever. Not that it's particularly amazing, it's just that I'm kind of devoted to this game so having a new official game come out is kind of mindblowing, even if it has a fair chance of being bad.
Five Nights at Kyuu Kyuu's
No but seriously, it could be anything. The "trailer"s seem to be alluding to something more sinister though. It doesn't have much of the brighter aspects of Yume Nikki though.
If he wasn't very high in the ranks he probably couldn't suggest it at all.
Maybe he also lost interest, or just didn't want to give them rights for it.
Business isn't as simple as you think, and maybe this game doesn't matter as much to him as it does to you
Yeah the trailer seemed like it might've been trying too hard. I hope it's still nice and comfy though.
20 bucks to it being a gacha game.
That'd be hilarious, although a bit disappointing.
I've still got five hours left before it pops up for me
Wait Wait Wait. Why hasn't anybody just hacked Kikiyama's email?? Perhaps more knowledge on Kikiyama could be found if we just hacked it! So, why don't we just find and or acquire someone who can hack his email??
"Hi, this is not a bug, but are you able to confirm Kikiyama's consent and participation in this porting of Yume Nikki?"
"Yes, we have worked with Kikiyama to bring Yume Nikki to Steam."
Sadly, my stay at Uboachan just made me too sceptical to believe this.
But it would be awesome as hell if it's true.
I really want to believe that, but the fact that I don't is just another reason why I don't think the new project will be good
I'm glad to know we help.
Sounds like a problem on your end.
Yeah, figured. I don't know what the issue is, but oh well.
Thanks for posting the screenshot, though. I won't have to worry about it
Yeah. At this point, the real kikiyama could actually show up in person and we wouldn't even believe them.
Hi, it's me. I'm Kikiyama. This romhack is a scam from the russia government. I do not approve. Good day
I like the visuals but definitely agree. The sound effects and noise within the video really is trying its damn hardest to be unsettling and missing the point of what made yume nikki unsettling in the first place. the music is at least nice though, but my expectations for this is low, especially with the kadokawa name attached.
also how did they even contact kikiyama if anon from both eng and jap chans have been trying for years without success? sounds a bit sketchy, given the reticent nature of the creator.
I asked myself something akin to that as well, how's the other side of the jap community taking it? (outside of twitter, pixiv, blogs, basically something that's not surface level)
I don't browse the chans because i don't know moon that well but i'm interested to hear if anything new has popped up
Reminder that new artwork KyuuKyuu-kun is for hugging.
Honestly I really hope it's an anime because that's the one field YN hasn't crossed over into yet. A series of silent atmospheric shorts would be ideal.
Oh right. Well maybe in the future then.
>>96>VNs are "games"
Also did anybody see and save what last night's image was?
read the thread next time>>85
Damn, missed that one by seven minutes. I was hoping I was gonna be able to get to see one but I guess it's over now. Ah well. Gonna try and be around for when the countdown timer hits zero. Should be fun, for better or worse.
AHHHHH 3D YUME NIKKI HOLY FUCK
I says here that Kikiyama is fully supervising the project.
Release date: February 23, 2018 (Friday)
Price: 1,980 yen (tax included)
Language: Japanese · English · Chinese (Simplified / Traditional Chinese) · Korean · French · Italian · German · Spanish · Russian
Only available in digital donwload
From the pictures it looks like a remake, maybe with new stuff.
It actually looks neat.
Anything on System Specs? I hope this can run on a toaster.
Mystery solved or is this a Google Translate goof?
Nope, this looks like leaked stuff, for more we have to wait 18 hours.
I don't think it will be too much demanding.>tfw played the original on a shitty laptop>tfw gonna enjoy this in beautiful 4k 60fps on a 55' tv>in just a month
Hyped as fuck here
>>106>I says here that Kikiyama is fully supervising the project.
Every time that is said outside of his website this loses credibility.
Okay but what about this? >>110
Could this be actual new art from Kikiyama? I'm not sure if it is or maybe one of the Sewer Murals.
Nevermind, I just checked, this isn't from the Sewers.
Why doesn't the twitter page and the website link work?
As mentioned above in another post, this is Kikiyama-shi, and it is akin to saying Kikiyama-sensei. It's a genderless honorific. It's usually used as a sign of respect towards creators (artists, composers, etc.).
You mean, this?http://yume-nikki.com/https://twitter.com/k_yumenikki
Because obviously it hasn't been officially announced yet. We need to wait those few hours left.
>Being this stupid
There are still 15 hours left.
Oh hey, the logo appears for a couple seconds everytime I refresh the page
>>110>a dripping penis>a woman with spread legs>anal
Real subtle guys.
Remember when "Mado was raped" was just a theory? Seems like they're trying to canonize it.
Yeah, the logo is now displayed.
10 hours to go.
Since the release is in a month I hope for a gameplay trailer.
If the worst happens I'm going to weather the storm with the rest of my friends who loved the original game. The chill fans will always exist; they might be scattered but they'll always be around. Yume Nikki to me is an experience, and I consider interacting with the fans and experiencing the culture to be part of the experience, too.
I always felt like YN was a little uncomfortably subtly sexual anyways. I think the design is pretty Yume Nikki; it just feels like a new take on the style and it's kind of cool to see.
Gentle plead to have someone take a screenshot or be recording when the timer reaches zero in case something crazy happens, for those who won't be able to attend it live. Thank you
By the way, midnight here for the last time, they just repeated the last pic.
Going to sleep now, since I have to wake up at 6:40 to be there when it reaches zero.
Only 7 hours to go.
oh my god
I like this premise a lot, but is anyone else really worried by the game's graphical quality?
Those pics of the inside of Madotsuki's room look worse than most PS2 games. That's like, some Unity asset flip shit.
It really doesn't look good at all artistically/graphically.
I really hope those are either old as hell screenshots or just mock-ups or cheapo renders or something.
whatever it is, I hope all the Paracas mythology themes stay intact or at very least the aesthetic
it looks okay I just hope I can run it on my potato
2 more hours dudes
I know right? It feels like only two weeks ago when the counter was at 14 days remaining. Crazy shit.>>133
I loved that part of the original Yume Nikki aesthetic. It'd be great to see it come back.
That depends, is it a Japanese potato?
It feels like it was two weeks ago because 14 days is practically 2 weeks ago.
Anyway, 2:40 hours go. Can't wait to read all the complains and claims that this the biggest shit since the manga.
It's not that I can't wait to, it's just that I'm happy to experience, with everyone else, whatever ride we get. It's kind of big to have something new to flip shit about in YN so it should be pretty fun.
Shame that the speculation and tension is coming to an end, but yeah shit's going to go down soon and I'm excited for that. I saved a bottle of cream soda for this moment and I'm gonna crack it open to celebrate or just have a drink to Yume Nikki and us in general.
the countdown ends at midnight for me exactly
i'm in central time
I am very homosexual for Yume and his Nikki
Despite how much of a shitshow this whole countdown deal has been, it's been really fun sharing it with you guys.
Damn son. I'm EST so I get it at 1 AM.
Do you think Nikki is going to figure out xis gender identity in this one?
The original was really vague and I hope this game has answers.
I know we're all very excited but lets try and keep the shitposting down a little, as fun as it may be.
I haven't been on this site in years but it's heartwarming to come back to join you all in collectively losing our shit over this
GET HYPE BOYS, GIRLS, AND ASSORTED ELDRITCH HORROR BLOBS
please clue me in on this 'madot is trans' meme
11 minutes you mean.
It is, isn't it? Welcome back home motherfucker. The ride's just about to start and we might get mediocrity but we also might get something good. Here's to us chilling out for many more years and having god damn kickass times together and enjoying what Yume Nikki has to offer.
Really old theory that got taken over by shitposters and tumblr.
wow this thread has gotten even more active oof
Hmm, I'm still a little skeptical…
maaan I am so happy to be back in here.
Just when something new comes out c:
I was so active back then (even made an banner for this site)
Let us all hope that there will be something really good after the countdown c:!!
monoko really activates my almonds if you know what i mean
before the countdown ends what are you favorite areas of the original game? i like the torinigen party
I really liked the boss fight with The End
Sky Garden, without a single doubt.
Every time I refresh the page it resets to 33 minutes and 5 seconds and counts down from there.
2 minutes!!! excited
holy shit i hope its a new game
BRACE FOR IMPACT
It's sitting at 0 seconds for me.
are you serious? nothing happened
>>YUMENIKKI -DREAM DIARY- was created under supervision and with the full cooperation from the original creator, Kikiyama themselves.
kikiyama confirmed not dead
The only thing that can confirm his life is an update to his site. His site has not been updated.
I'll believe it when kikiyama's website is updated…
The new game looks like shit.
i'm staying optimistic, maybe the screenshots are before the game is finalized
From where did you get that picture?
And people have already asked the publishers on Steam to ask Kikiyama if they could update their site.
it actually looks really good.
I was looking forward a 3d yume nikki

I really like this image. It gives me some hope for the project.>>191>>192>>194

Yall check http://yume-nikki.com/#p1

YN x Undertale confirmed
Pack up boys.
locked official twitter account :) :) :) :)
it's true kikiyama is madotsuki's father
I really enjoyed Kikiyama's seminal release
If you enjoyed Kikiyama's seminal release you got good taste
I loved playing around in Kikiyama's seminal release
I loved playing with Kikiyama's seminal release
I waited so long and hard for Kikiyama's seminal release
Kikiyama's seminal release was so refined and beautiful
this game looks gay lol
>The RPG Maker team at Kadokawa has paired up with Active Gaming Media’s development team
But Active Gaming Media is a localization company. Since when do they have a development team?
They worked on Nier: Automata, so I guess the translations will be good at least…
it really got moved :(
trying to stay neutral on my hype, but it sure is good to have yume nikki discussions again. and the potential for new kiki clues.
Cool, there's a new board!
I guess now we can talk about the new game in a place away from Kikiyama's seminal release.
kikiyama seminally released on all of us
Was Yume Nikki raped?
Pls don't ban
That would make sense, given his seminal release.
Yes, Kikiyama seminally released inside of her.
Guys I love Kikiyama's SEMINAL release
looks like an LCD from 2004
>all of this hype and discussion building up to a bunch of seminal release memes
W-was… was this entire countdown just a countdown to our own metaphorical seminal release within this very thread?
Quite the opposite to tell the truth.
That drip coming out of her mouth just screams "seminal release"
It's appreciated all the same if that counts for something?
The text description in Japanese is slightly different from the English translation.
It says they got fans from all over the world for this project, and that the Kadokawa team faced Kikiyama to give their thanks with this project.
Nice.>>256>and that the Kadokawa team faced Kikiyama to give their thanks with this project.
So, Kikiyama didn't make it, they made it as a "thank you" project?
i bet kikiyama is mad at the writer who wrote seminal release cause we're all making fun of him now
Kind of, but they also say that it has the full approval, supervision and cooperation from them. All the information that is in English in the page is there in Japanese too. The only two bits missing are those I mentioned there.
>>260>i bet kikiyama is mad at the writer who wrote seminal release cause we're all making fun of him now
We're not making fun of him, we're just embracing his SEMINAL RELEASE.
So will this have Yume 2kki in it?
Does Yume 2kki have multiple SEMINAL RELEASES?
How else would it be a seminal release? Are you implying Kikiyama is a futa?
Actually yes. It's on seminal release number 0.106a right now. That's a lot of seminal releases! Wow!
this one is the giant poop monster
That thing looks very phallic. I've noticed in its design that it looks like a woman spreading her legs. The lack of arms seem to show symbolism of helplessness, which fits rather well, and the one eye and dribbling seminal releas- I mean "ooze" also fits the phallic design. Yume Nikki was always a little uncomfortable sexual, so I think it's kind of cool to see the themes of it be taken and developed into more of an art style.
It did say it was taking inspiration from recent indie hits. I'm guessing that means Undertale and DDLC but I'm hoping it's just some shitty translation issue and is actually talking about the fangames or something cooler.
Regardless of how I feel about the look of the game, its cool to see so many people talking about Yume Nikki again.
The Japanese literally says "modern indie game style", whatever that means.
Twitter is dead. Doesn't exist anymore.
Yeah exactly. The original game had some shit like that, and there were the uterus monsters and some things that were vaguely phallic. I think it's nice. The Mars eye feels a little cut-and-paste but I think it adds a lot to the redesign.
>>283>new manga and anime soon
I fucked up
It's almost like some tags don't actually mean anything.
i saw some people trying to talk with this account and flooding
but now the only info we have are mysterious those 4 tweets
Doesn't it look a bit like Mars-san from a different angle?
I hope they don't go the manga route and make Uboa a huge part of the game.
Did anybody cap the posts?
Twitter is back! And there are posts!
I don't mind Uboa being a recurring character, but if they do that, they need to make Poniko one too; they're tied together and exploring Poniko and learning more about Uboa could potentially be a really cool experience. Especially if this turns out to be an adventure game/walking sim hybrid.
>seminal release jokes
Come on guys I'm in public
…Are they reading the thread along with you?
did the seminal release cause you to make a public release of your own?
but will it have steam cards
The posts couldn't have been capped since the Twitter was protected, only people who were accepted as followers could've seen it and I tried following it hours ago with no luck on being accepted. As a side note since this morning the Twitter went from 2 tweets to 4.
I hope it has Steam Market support for skins for each effect. Can't wait to uncrate a red frog.
The site edited the original Twitter link to direct to a new page @Y_DREAMDIARY
It makes me wonder if it was by mistake they linked to @k_yumenikki.
I just wonder what the tweets were.
Was it Kikiyama?
Not this time but I've done that too.
The old leaked article linked to that website, so it probably wasn't a mistake.
how is it back up ? can't find it
Its on the bottom of the Yume Nikki website. There
was a new twitter account made.
No, you'll need three graphics cards and a ryzen
Will it run on my Japanese potato? It doesn't have any graphics cards but I think it has a hole in it.
that's weird, what's monoe doing with an umbrella?
I wonder why it got changed. Maybe they will post another new image on a few hours?
I forgot to add that it's raining indoors, so it's obviously the umbrella effect. It's even white since Monoe is using it. What does it mean?
if it's a game version of the manga they will all be in the same dream world. I think it is just a 3D version of the old game
kikiyama's battlegrounds. torinigens have to hunt down the yume nikkis. yume nikkis must find effects to survive. 100 players a server, so hyped
These were posted earlier but honestly it's kinda nice to see them again so I don't really care.
Also remember that the full-length vid was titled "We can't wake up" or something along those lines.
I just really hate the 3D look. Sprites and Pixel Art will always just look so much more appealing to me. Even though the original was dark, it was still colourful. These new screenshots just look way too dark.
Looks really ugly, to be quite honest.
That's true, also reminded me a bit of some of the parallax art from graffiti and windmill world but that's probably stretching it a bit. Can only wonder what it's doing floating around the barracks Mado, though.
>>356>the barracks Mado
About which image are you talking about?
Fucked up the grammar sorry, ignore the barracks bit. I'm talking about the pic that appears on page 1 of the new site. Creature shown by her head doesn't seem to be in any environment that looks like the image in the original game.
I propose that we call the new guy Bikdut.
He looks like a Bikdut.
He's based on one of the sewer drawings iirc. Doesn't that drawing already have a name? We could just use that name.
Actually nevermind. That original sketch looked so close to something you'd see in the sewers that I swore it was from the original game. I checked, and it's not. It even has those weird little hand things you see in this sketch, here.
Bikdut is a fun name but it doesn't flow off the tongue that easily. Something more Yume Nikki-ish like "the dribbling monster" or "Awadatsu", following the trends of calling things monsters or giving them Japanese names based on something. Awadatsu is Japanese for "ooze", though, "Tereru" is for "to hang" or "to drop" which kind of fits his head. Awadatsu-san has a nice ring to it though. Tereru-san isn't bad either, but "dribbling monster" fits his inhuman nature. We could wait until the game releases and see if he has anything to do with Mars-san, and if so, we could name him something related to Mars like Phobos-san.
I don't mean to get so indepth into this but it's kind of fun to talk about. It might be best to see the characters functionality in game first, and even then, I think it's something that everyone has to agree on.
Never thought I'd see a new creature being named
Yeah, I have Kikiyama's full approval to do some Yume Nikki shit too. It's true because I said it on the internet and people don't go on the internet and tell lies!
Until there's a kikiyamaHP update, this is 100% fraud, end of story.
>>418>Until there's a kikiyamaHP update, this is 100% fraud, end of story.
This is fucking stupid.
I hope you realize you're setting up a pretty much impossible endgame if you ever want this confirmed, as Kikiyama has no intention of interacting with the community ever again likely.
So you're just looking for an easy excuse to call this a fraud likely because you just don't like the way the game looks.
So, you think that a major company that has been around for 63 years is knowingly taking the risk of publishing the successor to a well-renowned and loved indie game under completely falsified permission from the original developer?
Using a small group of developers with a passion for the game, and extras who were literally required to play the original game through to the end to ensure that they are true to the source material?
Just to sell it exclusively on the internet for $20?
Sorry, accidentally blank posted. It seems like most of the hate toward the game is based off of two less pleasant-looking screenshots from Madotsuki's home, despite everything else looking borderline perfect
You clearly have NO IDEA how companies work. They don't give a shit about some decade-absent developer; they have money and lawyers. The point is that if it's official it should be mentioned on the official Yume Nikki website.
IT'S FUCKING NOT.
Alternatively, instead of being a fraud, everything that's been released so far has been completely true. Kikiyama doesn't want to be involved on the public side, and the website isn't updated because they don't want it to draw all that attention when Dream Diary already has its own site set up and everything. And why bother? Because a handful of people are skeptical?
It could be IP theft. Or Kikiyama could just be being reclusive.
Anything else get posted or do we still have the same stuff from before? I still love that image of Monoe with the umbrella effect.
Oh god I love Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou. Good taste anon. And yeah, it has a very dreamlike and quiet explorative feel. I consume a lot of media with that kind of atmosphere (Kino no Tabi, Oyasumi PunPun, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Mushishi, etc.) so I didn't immediately draw comparisons with YN, but it definitely has a similar quality.
As for this new project, I'm going to wait until I see it in motion.
This logic makes no senses whatsoever; not wanting to be involved in the public side… wtf does that even mean? It's not like he's updating the site with his house address or anything or even speaking to anybody. Why wouldn't you want attention to a website you created? Pretty sure having the Yume nikki on steam would be a pretty big deal for him. As well, the link to kikiyama hp is present on Yume nikkis game page. "Why bother"… because for years hundreds of people have been wondering if this man/woman is still alive on this godamn planet. If he doesn't want to be involved publicly, what would make you think he would want to be involved at all?
daily reminder that s e m i n a l r e l e a s e and i'm a fucking child so i won't ever stop finding that funny
Just because Kiki doesn't conform to typical expectations of how a person should interact with the public doesn't mean they don't care about whether or not an official follow up to their creation is decent or not. It doesn't mean they don't care about their fans.
Oh shit that's pretty cool. I've always liked O-man because of his weird therapist feel; he plays a nice song and gives you the flute, which is probably the most relaxing and reassuring effect in the game.
I think these aren't bad at all but I prefer the armless stubby look they had in game. I'm not sure if Kiki intended for them to be outright humanoid. I do hope the other weirder looking characters get to actually remain weird looking, though I can imagine certain changes being necessary for 3D modeling and animation.
I hope fanartists won't take these as the "actual canon" look for the characters. Interpreting them is much of the fun, and this game should just be considered another interpretation like the manga, even if it has Kiki's supervision.
Huh! It's Pain Blob but this area is brand new. Interesting.
I wonder if this means the game will have puzzle solving?
An adventure game/walking sim hybrid? That sounds like a fun idea; I brought it up earlier in the thread after me and some friends talked about the idea a bit if I remember correctly. Might be cool to see!
I am really worried that this might be a 2.5D game.
I Really hope not.
Worry no more. It clearly is.
I don't think it is judging from the Pink Sea screenshot
Look at >>339
, these are all fully 3D views
This is the most baffling screenshot yet. What on earth is happening here? Monoe isn't in the White Desert and she SEEMS to be in an antagonistic role. It looks like they're in a High School.
It's clear already that this has diverged a lot from the original game, so I don't think we're looking at a straight up 3D remake.
There's something that seems to tip me off about the 2.5d thing - and that is the dilapidated school screenshot. Had this be an actual 2.5 environment, Madotsuki would not be farther off the screen or they would even do enough space for chairs on front.
There is also the oblique angle on the Karaoke street and the balloon to the Pastel Cones. Everything seems to point out to a fixed camera a la Silent Hill.
I'm wondering if it will be a side-scroller, a lot of the screens seem to imply that.
I wonder if this game will even have effects (besides maybe the knife). None of the screenshots have shown any.
I could see them just replacing effects with conventional items, but they could also just be saving them for last.
Madotsuki's holding a lamp in two screenshots, so I think we can assume the lamp effect's present.
She's holding a lamp, yes, but the Lamp Effect replaces her head. So something different is being done with the effects.
So Kikiyama should want to update their personal website because other people want them to update their personal website. Got it. And a person who has diligently gone out of their way to maintain their anonymity should definitely want to be directly interacting with their fans, especially since their fans want them to. And they can't possibly just want to work on their stuff behind the scenes now that someone else can take care of the more bothersome PR aspect.
It's completely inconceivable.>>465
We've already got some screenshots that make me think it's not, like her room and the Pink Sea, but some of the others like in this recent batch definitely do have a sidescroller feel.
They've gone out of their way to clearly show her face, though. I wonder if that's just a stylistic choice for the screenshots, or if it'll be a thing in the game itself too.
>>472>They've gone out of their way to clearly show her face
Not to clearly show her face. That is an important keyword.
>>472>like her room and the Pink Sea
Those could easily be from a cutscene tho, like if you interact with the balloon or the console the camera moves for a cinematic shot
I'm sure it's taken 10 years for any type of company to notice the capitalize ability of this game. He's not involved, you're in denile and describing the description of a dead person.
At this point it doesn't matter if you're willfully trolling or not, you're wasting or time being a fucking moron online.
We're both shitting out explanations with no definite proof and basically no way of getting it. I'd say we're on basically even footing. If not being cynical enough to automatically assume the worst and immediately dismiss all other explanations without definite proof either way means I'm in denial, okay. I'm in denial. Congrats on being definitely and irrefutably correct.>>475
Yeah, it could be cutscene stuff. I'd be kind of disappointed if that was the case. I'm hoping it's just the layout of a couple places that kind of give it that look.
You can't prove me right, and I can't prove you wrong. I see there's no point in arguing from the beginning, but your saying shit about how kikiyama personality is that you have no clue about. Plus, you seem to like sucking playisms small COCK.
Also thanks for proving me right
Personally, I'd kinda like it if the camera was at a fixed angle, but you still had full 3D control of Madotsuki.
Yeah seems like it. Kind of a cool redesign; he's lost a lot of his mysticality but the redesign is pretty cute. Kinda looks like a Kirby 64 enemy now or something.
That's two images with Monoe in them recently. Is she gonna have a bigger role in the game? Honestly I'd be incredibly open to that as the Mono Sisters are my favorite.
Honestly the game could be both 3D free walking and 2.5 line walking considering the original had rooms like the staircase where the movement was locked.
yeah that could be the case
same goes for the sewers
Is it just me, or is Madotsuki's neck really long in that picture?
Woah, I missed this one earlier. Seeing the fisherman in 3d really gives him a different vibe. I think it makes him stand out and feel a bit creepier, since you can see the depth and shape of his human figure more clearly in a rather dark and empty place. I like it.
It makes sense to leave it up. If someone were to check in after missing out on the countdown or forgetting about it, they'll go "Oh wow it's already over? Cool". It's just kind of letting people know it's over, almost.
Wouldn't it be better if it served as a redirect to the new game's website, though?
It does. If you click on the logo, it sends you there. But I agree that they should do something with it to make things clear. As it is, it's weird and confusing, as if they forgot about it.
are you the guy that started that steam discussion?
if so, the pinned answer made me smile thanks
i'm the guy who gave the pinned answer and accidentally started the meme by poking fun at the wording on the steam page
My main gripe with the redesigned title is the one enormous K. Plus the "Dream Diary" text looks so obviously slapped onto the bottom, without any attempts to make it look like an actual part of the logo. It's so fucking hideous.
They should have named this Dream Diary Squared because this title is so redundant.
I would be fine with it if it was just a maze, but the fact that it was actually the title (ゆめにっき), and that now they covered it, takes away some of its charm.
Anyway, I don't want to judge things too early. Let's see what they say now.
Seriously why is that K capitalized? I literally just noticed and now it's really bothering me.
There's three things I can think of.
1. The big K stands for "Kikiyama".
2. The big K stands for "Kodakawa"
3. The K looks the way it does because the name of a really important character starts with the letter K.
What if (and I know this sounds crazy) it's like that because they liked how it looked? What if they thought it was nice how it mirrored the position of the っ in the Japanese name, marking that little stop in the word? What if there's no deeper meaning to it?
Maybe it's capitalized because of the little tsu that a double letter in Romaji implies of the Japanese spelling. There is a verbal "jump" at that point when pronouncing it. So they could be stylizing that.
I always thought it was a girl laying down; head on the left, feet on the right. It could still be that, just with the title inside of the design. I always thought the maze represented exploring her dreamworld; the world inside of her.
Official twitter dropped a new videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZx47XHhmaQ
It has a whole 2 seconds of KyuuKyuu-kun among other little things
Am I allowed to be concerned yet
this is becoming quite the roller-coaster of expectations
It's fucking nothing.
The game is out in 3 Weeks, why can't they just release a goddamn full trailer that actually shows the game in action?
I really don't like that music.
I thought at least the music would be fine after seeing the first teaser, but now i am even worried about that.
Also Official twitter changed their icon again.
>>702>That KyuuKyuu-kun model>No texture, no color aside from red
Looks soulless as fuck.
I'm really trying to be optimistic about this, but it's becoming harder every time they show something new.
Actually I think Kyu looks ok, we've seen it retained the texture in the concept art so it might just not be visible in this poorly lit area.
By that's also my problem, because the area completely lacks the atmosphere of the original. Where's the Aztec symbolism? That was a huge part of that game and I'm really worried they've done away with it.
If they do items instead of transformation, how the everloving fuck will they do the Frog effect? Just leave it out or?
Also what will they do about FC World. The oni is my wife
I think that the red boulder rock thing that we see in a building is some sort of new effect, so I think the effects could be a mix of physical items, and transformations.
You mean this thing that Mado pushes at some point? http://yumenikki.wikia.com/wiki/Pain_Blob
A thing that worries me about the screenshots and what've seen so far is the general tone shift from Yume Nikki. Yume Nikki felt neutral in that the areas it conveyed weren't meant to be spoopy, it was just a wild dream (aside from 2 or so areas)
The way the lightning is employed in the screenshots (excluding Pink Sea) seems to be going for the scare factor and less for the wows or weirding people out. The countdown artwork also has this darker and edgier approach (Mado looks like a fucking yandere, and don't get me started on Poniko…)
The screenshot were Madotsuki shat herself over Monoe, although funny, seems to be aiming for that horror vibe. It might be because of it's transition to 3D though, because to be frank that's why lots fo the things in the game have the appeal they do, the ambiguity. And it also makes the game feel detached. Heck, some fangames have tried for years to be spoopy and all of them failed. Maybe it's just a difference of perspective.>>41
fuck i just realized someone said the exact same thing i just wrote but i spent 20m on this so fuck society
Nah, I think she just pushes it around >>453
Anon you replied to here, you explained the problem much better than i did.
The best thing about yume nikki was the atmosphere, it was never trying to be scary in any way, it was just what it was, an exploration game with surreal ambients. It never tried to be anything else, it was just that.
I don't really care if YNDD has bad graphics or stuff like that, I just want it to be recapture that sensation of exploration the original had, but I am really uncertain after what we have seen.
>>721>Mado looks like a fucking yandere
She's just holding the knife but otherwise looks bored as shit. It's not even close to being half as edgy as most of her fanart.
>Don't get me started on Poniko
She definitely has a creepy gaze but it's not too out of line given that she's also Uboa.
Your concerns are valid otherwise though.
I hope you meant Paracas/Topará.
Probably the only hope I have left at this point.
It's very very clear that they're purposefully withholding the more interesting stuff, letting out only bits here and there. People have been complaining that all the shown locations are too 'boring' and realistic but that might be the point.
We just have a month to go anyway at least.
one in the deleted image is just piccolo
Holy fuck I can't unsee it
So, anything else that's happened? Thread's kind of slowing down.
Just checked. Wow… Well, they've freshly changed it, once again. What's the deal with that?
Pretty cool. Snooped around on the website myself; I really regret that nobody backed up the older versions listed on that site or even the Steam versions with the unique trippy bugs and whatnot. Those are kind of part of the history of the game.
Jcm2 is that you?
29 new screenshots of the game were released, here's an article with all of them.http://www.4gamer.net/games/407/G040781/20180209031/
Damn awesome find. Thanks for sharing!
"Photograph fragment" GET!
Huh. Wonder what kind of role the photograph fragments will play.
The power to timetravel to when the picture was taken.
The photo looks like a girl(that looks like a hair, an ear, and a hand to me) in some building ,like a school or hospital or some shit like that.
That's a fucking sick, twisted reference, but I won't pretend I didn't get it.
not gonna lie, i thought the same thing when i saw it…
