What the fuck is this shit?

I can't wrap my head around this. Has anything touhou related ever been on a nintendo before? The side-scrolling perspective looks really off and your sprite looks massive compared to your hitbox. Can't say i'm a fan of the n64, pokemon x graphics. Has zun reached a new level of selling-out?

These things don't add up anon. If it's making money, it's official. The weird, doujin, you can make money off of other people's stuff thing doesn't apply to the states.

not anymore. touhou doujin games are the only ones that make it over in the west now. zun's the copyright holder, so he can allow whatever he wants. since hes always been really lax, it makes sense that western publishers want to get in on the doujin market. iirc we can thank carpe fulgur for starting this

fangames have been making the $$$ for ages on steam/playstation. it's not anything new

Not the same as Nintendo. Fangames of what? Touhou is profitable by itself and protected by copyright. It makes no sense for zun to not be getting a cut of the money. Licensed products are still considered official.

If that's the case zun is a really shitty businessman. If somebody makes something with your ips and profits for it, you should demand they pay a license fee. Are you sure he's not getting any of the money? For a nintendo product?

nah hes totally making money off of works published on steam and consoles. i'm just referencing his attitude on the doujin community. it was like taking a step back and letting your IP grow naturally without you having to do too much. since publishers are trying to get in on the doujin market, things are changing wildly.

zun gets real buddy-buddy with doujin circles and doujin bands and stuff nowadays. hes got a hand in determining what gets picked for publishing for sure.

and some of these circles do a great job of modernizing for a console experience. it makes sense why he'd let doujin circles modernize his IP, he likes to develop his own games but they just are not marketable to mass appeal.

Oh, I get it. Letting them do most of the work for you. He figured a one man band couldn't generate that much profit, so he lets other people make things for him and takes a cut. Very clever.

It's like having employees without having to worry about paying a salary, or worry about using your own money for marketing. That's how I see it. It's another form of licensing if you ask me. the line between, "fangame", and official kind of becomes meaningless. It still reflects on him. you can't just divorce it from him with the wave of your hand. Is, "modernizing for a console experience", another way of pronouncing watering it down?
