Oh gee, where have I seen that sort of language before? I'm guessing it's another Discord grooming deal, right?

I also saw something about mods being transphobic or some such, and a lot of that crowd are self-exiling from YNO which is pretty funny to watch. Also saw talks of people wanting to fork it entirely, actually.

Uneven Dream also wants to remove themselves from YNO. We might see a domino effect with the other western fangames oof. ACCELERATE

No.17744
>>17741>>17742While I think Sam and Mexikirb sound like dickheads, yeah thats pretty much how I feel. You invite minors, western tumblr/bsky users, AND have a discord? What did they think would happen, honestly?
The tumblr/bsky crowd alone is a pain to deal with because every little thing to them is a microaggression to be blown out of proportion as they are bored, upper class kids and manchildren living off mommy's credit card who's only struggle is what people have said about their identity online or crying racism at every troll obviously there to stir them up. Much to the dismay of actual lgbtq people who are struggling and don't have the luxury of being on discord/twitter/bsky all day long and have to deal with the fall out of those bsky users destroying their reputation.
With these sort of things, its best either to not to have a discord, not to invite minors (which shouldn't be in the ynfg space in the first place considering the topics covered in said games), and definitely not have western tumblr refugees.
Discord itself is already a hotbed for drama and mental decay on its own.

>>17741>Fuck cancel culture, it's a cancer that's killing the internet.i agree pretty much with all of your post except this part. nah let cancel culture kill yno. the people running it shouldn't be there.
if they didn't diddle minors online while the others keep quiet, this would have never happened. actually, a competent team would have stuck with their own internal chat system they made for the service, instead of opening a public discord, but that would require not acting like/being a fellon.
No.17753
seems yall say "they shouldnt have opened a discord" yet the site started as a personal thing shared on discord and was decided to be a bigger project on discord. its a discord drama pit foremost and online game site second

I will agree, however. It would be difficult to convince people to move to different community unless YNO goes under for good. I think the more likely outcome will be a leadership change at YNO at best, or just nothing at worst.
but hey. if it does go down, it would be the perfect time to prop up an alternative service. even if it doesn't have the bells and whistles but the standard multiplayer experience.

>>17769If YNO has taught me anything, it's that making games like this "more accessible" is not necessarily a good thing. Going too far in that direction means inevitably having to babysit the braindead kids that start showing up en masse because the barrier to entry is so low. I'm probably beating a dead horse here but I really do miss when 2kki didn't have an up-to-date English translation and you had to go through all sorts of system locale fuckery to get the damn thing working. It gatekept itself and kept all the children out.
I know that "gatekeeping" is like a swear word these days but I think it's sorta mandatory not to accommodate everyone in order to keep cool stuff for a slightly more "mature" audience intact and prevent the Roblox demographic from running it into the ground.
No.17771
I've never liked the idea of Yume Nikki Online, and the fact that there's a whole community and achievement system around it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I've never liked the YNO devs ever since heard stories about them harassing the Dream Diary Jam into quitting and handing over the keys to the jam, but given how that community also seems to just fill up with teenagers and their Discord drama, they probably dodged a bullet. And then how they just removed Answered Prayers for the crime of age gap wrongthink. I have no idea if any of these grooming claims are even true or not but I'm very happy seeing this project go under.
If people really want a Yume Nikki Online, just host the games on a webpage for easy access. No achievements, no Discord, no multiplayer, just a web browser with EasyRPG or whatever is used to host the games for people who don't want to keep downloading updates.

>>17770I feel like the article "Geeks, MOPs, and sociopaths in subculture evolution" is incredibly relevant reading regarding this situation, because to me it really mirrors what's been happening, not only with YNO but with the YN+Fangames community at large. (

>>17771The achievement system YNO implemented felt like needless gamification that clashed heavily with the philosphies of the games it was affixed to, and has only served to make me resent how widespread the practice has become. On a side note, I'd be interested in hearing more about the YNO devs' interference with the Dream Diary Jam - I was not aware they had even gained ownership of it until your post! It seems their ruinous hands reach farther than I had anticipated.

>game jam wait wtf i'm not aware of that story. That's insane.
>achievementsI'm personally not bothered by their existence. They are way for the community to supplement the existing game without disrupting it. You still wander the snow world of yume nikki or interact with the mask shop of 2kki. This is the usual experience for the new player. The returning players might enjoy in the easter egg hunt the community collectively created outside the gameplay, but it is completely optional and can be safely ignored.
>clashed heavily with the philosphies of the games it was affixed toTbh I don't really understand. Isn't the base game just a big collectathon exploration game? If it is, I don't see how community achievements is any different from yet another collectathon.
The only stench I can smell to it being the mods running the damn thing.
I'll admit though, I didn't extensively play on there to feel the system. I can understand if the whole system is in your face the whole time you play.

>>17771I don't mind multiplayer in 2kki specifically, as long as it's chat, room view etc disabled.
2kki is huge, and occasionally running into someone staring into a sunset, gives me a feeling that feels compatible with the whole thing (not with YN .flow etc though which feel more personal, both in the isolation and the character).
On the other hand I hate the tourism trips culture of YNO, shallow experiences, beelining to everything of note, no sense of wonder, just done for the sake of saying "Yeah I've been there". Truly a tourist tour experience.

>>17774I'm not part of the Jam server anymore so I can't see, but I remember one of the admins there posting about the transfer and seeming burnt out by it, and last month the other admin posted this on their bluesky about the jam:
>When I left it was being taken over by a bunch of nonstop underage drama over the silliest things (I left when I started getting flak for doing Lolitober) but at the same time who cares what they think I just want to make *something*So no direct confirmation on what happened, maybe YNO didn't force them out, but they're in charge of the Jam and Discord now. I could be wrong but I think Yuga was admin there, and they made that Nex guy a moderator, which is not a good sign at all, given he's an extremely overly sensitive autistic who can't handle the slightest bit of friction or nuance in any place I've seen him in.
>>17775How is gatekeeping a "swear word"? We need to gatekeep our communities and interests. We can't and shouldn't stop people from liking fangames, but we stop them from filling and taking over our communities. Otherwise, those Roblox kids would've taken over Uboachan ages ago. Same with other fangame hubs. You don't interact with those people, you don't enable them, and you tell them to fuck off if they try to police anything you do.

I am starting to feel that some anons here have already outed themselves as "children that didn't fuck around and find out bitching about children that did fuck around and find out." Don't act like CUnnies with inverse opinions, won't call out particular anons.
Additionally, no abstract community gatekeeping conversation please, use a separate thread for that. Let /ot/ be your kingdom.
>Dream Diary Jam being overrun by Yume Nikki 4Kids modsIf it pisses you off, do something to help them collapse and something better to rise. If you can't be bothered to do so, it clearly does not piss you off enough. The biggest lever we have on
them is relevance and reputation. They become nothing but a hollow grooming center the moment the world recognizes that a better scene and community does exist without all the Discord drama, united by pure enthusiasm and pride. What else do you think the idea of the USAGI Jam 2 is? (

>>17785>Additionally, no abstract community gatekeeping conversation pleaseAlas, gatekeeping has become a dirty word even among the moderators. I weep openly.
>The biggest lever we have on them is relevance and reputation.Do we, though?
The site's activity is a far cry from its heyday, and I can't exactly say our reputation has stayed intact either. Even if the modern DDJ is a hotbed of grooming and drama, when most folk see a webiste with the suffix "chan" they think it's some seedy anarchist lair of undesirables, and 9 times out of 10 they'll go to what looks respectable on the outside and is the most accessible. The fact that fandom enemy #1 Hujle is a mod here doesn't help our image, despite him being a bigger boon to the community than any of his naysayers have ever been.
