Dude, love these. Especially that first one. So then… a-are you using Oekaki for these? The sharp edges + painterly-quality is a really nice effect. I've wanted to try a similar technique for a long time but always fail.

I paint in the GIMP with the pencil tool often using a square brush on 85 spacing.

GIMP has a feature for mixing colours more traditionally (painting without it is more difficult because the colours become muddy): Go Windows > Dockable Dialogues > Colours, select the third tab with the brush icon. The colour you select adds a bit of that colour to the colour you have, like mixing watercolours.
