Specifically 1980's to 1999.

What was your favorite game/game series growing up? for me, it was Spyro, Sonic, maybe some Mario, and a few obscure games.

I'm surprised the Mother series isn't on here, nor Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger. I admit I am a nostalgia nerd.

My Pokémaniacs.
I love Pokémon. Been into it since the summer leading up to it's US release in 1998. I still play RB mostly, but sometimes GS. Always the latest game. The most recent games I've played multiple times were Platinum, and also BW, but I can't stand BW now.
I could never trust somebody if they liked PlayStation stuff. Sega was still the enemy too, but at least they had some quality games.

I just scored a Japanese Green version in a lot that I recieved, but I'm suprised to find out the Japanese versions are worth less than the originals, even new.

Pic isn't my personal cart but I felt the post needed something so here's a shit jpeg.

Japanese versions of most old cart games tend to be cheaper than their American counterparts. If you got RGB in box, you also got a physical town map. I have JP Red and Green in box, but no box for my copy of Blue. Blue is the most different for Americans, I think? Unknown Dungeon is a different layout. Red/Green just have different sprites. You can do some sweet glitches in Japanese RGB, like "beating" the game in 5 minutes. For the English release, they fixed a lot of the bugs (still leaving many, ha).

Pic shows my town map, albeit folded up.

I'll bite. What about some of your favorite 1900's television or movies?

While I enjoy the Astro Boy anime as somewhat of a novelty due to it's quirks (severely limited animation and poor audio), the Astro Boy manga is actually a pretty good mix of action sci-fi and speculative fiction. Some people are turned off by the dated look but I generally like the look of manga from the showa era because I like to watch how styles for manga have evolved.

I posted this link for the 1900's collab.

Brings me back a lot of memories, this one. I enjoyed this so much, there were some funny moments in there like the fake lion in the Zoo episode.

It was bought to me via a charity shop, and it stills brings me back to my childhood.

So yeah, I decided I will learn how to cook this year. Any advice on kitchen-related newbie problems?
Not necessarily related to the cooking itself, but about the handling of food/tools and basic knowledge.

Wash off the knife when you cut something before you cut another because this could cause cross contamination.

 No.3389

Make sure to use the right kind of flour

 No.3390

>>3388

This applies to ALL kitchen utensils, and your preparation surfaces as well such as cutting boards, countertops, etc. My rule of thumb is to wash anything that comes into contact with flesh/blood (from the animal or if you injure yourself) as soon as you're done using it to minimize cross-contamination risk. And of course, the most important kitchen tool is yourself, so ALWAYS remember to wash your hands too!

Seriously, if you're working in the kitchen, washing your hands is automatically the first thing you do every time. First, rinse your hands under warm water. Then, take some soap and start washing them. Rub them together and over one another vigorously. Don't forget to clean under the nails! Rub your fingertips at the nail against your palm for several seconds. Once you're done, rinse the soap away under warm water and then dry your hands with an air dryer or with a clean towel/napkin/etc.
Honestly, hand washing is one of the easiest ways to prevent some really nasty diseases and it takes less than a minute. ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE WORKING WITH FOOD!

Also, ALWAYS remember to turn the oven off when you're done using it!!!!!

 No.3391

not using something to oil the pan when frying things usually usually makes them cook slower and turn out worse in my experience.

 No.3392

Cook for yourself.
But think about who will taste afterwards.
Turn hours into minutes and minutes into seconds this way.
Start small to make it big, with your own limitations.
Love and care are hidden ingredients, as is patience.
With this, mistakes brew more knowledge.
Bon appétit.

Ok, this might not interest everyone, but if you have a basic grasp of the language (or can properly use Google Translate) it might amuse you.

An online version of the famous cooking manual by Pellegrino Artusi. While most of its recipes are now shunned by hip and 'modern' chefs, this manual is generally considered to be the Bible of italian cooking. Since it was meant as a guide for improving the eating standards of Italy, it uses fairly basic ingredients, and it deals mostly with plebs level eating.

Afaik, the manual is only available as a near out of print $50 hardcover, and a few odd recipes scattered around. If you see any title that piques you but can't read Italian I'll be glad to translate.

Didn't know about that one, after reading it for a bit I found it really amusing. Thanks!

Traditionally since I've been here we clean up posts relating to drama we've banned people over. The person who started this has been told over and over again to stop targetting a single user, which is against the rules. The mods and I have already talked about what should be done.

 No.3374

There was a glitch with banning people earlier. We intended to ban NAWTmillia earlier today, not just silent delete them. Rule 6 protects everyone not just people you like. From this point on we're going to warn anyone who tries to bring this up again just like we originally did Spider. It's three strikes with everyone on this.
